In this episode, Kristen and Erika are joined by Dr. Jay Zigmont, the founder of Childfree Wealth, a financial planning service that supports your life without kids. We’ll be talking about the basics of financial planning as people without kids as well as some out-of-the-box approaches to retiring that are exclusively designed for childfree lifestyles. While millennials may be in a sad state when it comes to financial planning and retirement, this episode is designed to help you feel inspired and ready to think *differently.* We also perform a riveting dramatic re-enactment of our comments section. Trust me when I say, you’ll want to listen until the end. If you’re interested in contacting Childfree Wealth, visit their website. You can also find Dr. Jay Zigmont and Childfree Wealth on Instagram. Today, we’re talking to a very special guest: Todd Warner. Todd has been a long-time Dinky community member — but when we met him at our Portland Happy Hour in October, we knew we had to sit down to talk with him more about his life. I think it’s safe to call Todd an activity junkie: as a typical Oregonian, he was an avid hiker, biker, skier, boat enthusiast, and beyond. Unfortunately, in the early 2010s, Todd started to notice his body taking on limitations — and ultimately was diagnosed with an ultra-rare and likely fatal disease known as Valosin Containing Protein disease, often referred to as VCP. So, today we’ll be talking with Todd about his life, his experience living with VCP, and if he has any regrets about not having kids.
Follow Todd on Instagram and donate to find a cure for VCP.

Somedays, it really feels like the trolls have it out for childfree folks — but no one knows this more than our friend Mikee. You’ve probably seen her on TikTok, where she has nearly 17k followers under the username @mrs.mikeegarcia. Mikee is a 29-year-old 3rd degree black belt in Taekwondo, a curly girl who loves to help women embrace their natural hair, and a DINK who is an active voice in the childfree community. In this episode, we’ll be talking with her about her experiences as a content creator — and unfortunately, what it was like to get doxxed for being vocally childfree.

If you’ve been thinking about joining Dinky on a trip but not yet quite sold, this is the episode for you! In March, Dinky took 20 members of the Dink Squad to the bucket list destination every person who wanted to become an archeologist dreamt of going: Egypt. In this episode, we’ll recount the experience and share some audio clips from the travelers — and hopefully inspire you, too, to add Egypt to your list of travel spots to visit!

Dinky - Trad Wives & Pronatalism
play

04/02/24 • 76 min

“Trad wife” is the new buzzword in pop culture — and we can’t seem to escape it, no matter how hard we try. While it might seem harmless and dumb on the surface, trad wife culture is deeply rooted in pronatalism. If you’re not familiar with the term, pronatalism is the policy or practice of promoting childbirth or encouraging people to have children. Today, pronatalism & pronatalist policies are on the rise all around us — from ads on television to the decisions from the Supreme Court. So, today we’re giving you an introductory lesson on pronatalism — the origins, the consequences, and what we can do about it.
