Drops of Jupiter- Train Decomposition
Decomposition Podcast
04/03/17 • 29 min
This week we re-welcome Denis Ackermann (of Pop Flies and Grounders, available on iTunes)to hyper-analyze Train's pseudo-incestuous 2001 hit song "Drops of Jupiter." This song is LOADED with nonsense...utter, utter nonsense
Decomposition: Bang Bang- Jessie J f. Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj
Decomposition Podcast
05/08/17 • 40 min
This week we decompose the 2014 hit "Bang, Bang." What does Jessie J think this song is about? What does "Dippin' in the pot of blue photo," mean? Is this song any good? Why are 3 men writing a song about ladies (or girls if you're REAL dirty) Bang Bangin' all over you?
It gets gross, everybody.
Decomposition: Follow Me- Uncle Kracker
Decomposition Podcast
06/26/17 • 36 min
Does Uncle Kracker rank on the Top 20 shittiest people ever list? Is "Follow Me," worse than "Smile?" WTF is rap/rock/country? And, of course, we ask "Who's Your Uncle?" Join us for what is perhaps the height of douchebaggery as we hyper-analyze "Follow Me."
Decomposition: Only My Heart Talkin- Alice Cooper
Decomposition Podcast
06/19/17 • 36 min
Oh, Alice Cooper...you wanted so bad to have a hit power ballad. there's a lot of lyrical drivel to roll through. Can you hear me knockin? How many tears? How much is too much eyeliner? AND FULL BLOWN STEVEN TYLER...good god, I love this song.
Decomposition: One Week- Barenaked Ladies
Decomposition Podcast
06/05/17 • 39 min
1998 introduced the world to Canada's Barenaked Ladies. Their hit "One Week," was catchy, sugary sweet, and apparently all about murdering your lover and living with her corpse. This week we welcome friend and co-host of A Jar of Salsa podcast, Christina, to dive into the goofiest murder conspiracy pop music has ever had. Full disclosure...its mostly nonsense...not actual murder
Back Up Off Me!- Doctor Dre and Ed Lover (f. T-Money) Decomposition
Decomposition Podcast
10/16/17 • 50 min
Doctor Dre (not Dr. Dre) and Ed Lover are living legends. They helped bring hip-hop to the masses as hosts of Yo! Mtv Raps. They worked with Run DMC and the Beastie Boys before putting out their own album. It did not do well. However, the title track is a remarkable amount of fun. Cobbled together from bits of other classic hip-hop songs, it is musical Prozac. Who are the suckers? Who is Davy? Funky Santa! What did T-Money do? What did these guys have in common with T.S. Elliot? Don't worry, Katie is able to draw a comparison. I double-dog dare you to NOT want to hear this song every single morning, first thing, in order to put yourself in a wonderful mood. Unimportant. Enjoy our "flow," as we go over one of the most quotable rap songs of all time.
Electric Youth- Debbie Gibson Decomposition
Decomposition Podcast
10/09/17 • 56 min
Zappin it to ya'. Castle sets, Mary-Kate and/or Ashley, power-mullet face dancer. This song really thinks its saying something. Spoiler, it isn't. It is, however a ton of fun. Loads of gibberish in too-long of a song, and Debbie Gibson may have been super-high. And she shared a songwriting award with Bruce Springsteen. The video is worth watching, as its off-the-rails crazy.
When It Rains It Pours- Luke Combs Decomposition
Decomposition Podcast
11/27/17 • 64 min
Fellow Mountaineer Luke Combs (aka Redneck Shrek) has exploded this year on the country music scene. He should have finished out his last day at school, perhaps he would have learned what the saying "When It Rains It Pours," actually means. Where exactly is I-65? Why on Earth would a Carolinian choose Miller Lite over Southpaw? Donna basically sings this entire episode, the dog gets handsy, and John Arbuthnot...whoever that is.
Female- Keith Urban Decomposition
Decomposition Podcast
11/20/17 • 66 min
Keith Urban's almost-two-week-old hit "Female," is a misstep. He tried to do something constructive in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal and just ended up recording a song that would have benefited from a rewrite. Instead we just have a pile of vaguely-related lady-words, benevolent sexism galore, and, obviously, no real rhymes at all.
Rude- Magic! Decomposition
Decomposition Podcast
03/13/17 • 27 min
This week we are joined by teacher, music lover, and friend, Teresa to discuss the ubiquitous 2014 hit “Rude.” Does Magic!’s Canadian accent improve the rhyme scheme in this song? Who is the rude one in the story being told? What on Earth does it mean to be “boys at the altar?” Why is this god-damned song so catchy?
