If Kirby swallowed a boss from Metal Gear Solid, what absolutely bonkers power would he obtain? Which of the X-Men would be the biggest bummer of a roommate? Is King Bob-Omb’s rule officially recognized by the Mushroom Kingdom or is Bob-Omb Battlefield a sovereign nation? Debate This! asks the kind of bold and heroic questions about your favorite video games and comics that no other podcast would dare ask. Although, it’s probably because other people have better things to do than argue which color of Yoshi is the best color of Yoshi. In this show, no one is right, but someone is definitely wrong.

Debate This! - Ep. 106: Tucker Carlson Comes From the Mouth
play

08/23/22 • 58 min

WARNING: Hey, it's me again, telling you for now a third time this season that if this is your first time listening to Debate This!, maybe pick a different one! This episode is a bit. It is a joke. Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events, on our Earth or on 616 is purely coincidental.

Join Yucker Carlson as he brings together a group of "influencers" from the across the multiverse to have an intellectual discussion. Today we are here to decide what is truth and what is fiction as we debate the most plausible conspiracy theories within the MCU.

The title of this week's episode was NOT selected by our Patrons in our Discord Community because we didn't want to spoil the bit! BUT if you want to help us choose the next one, join our discord and/or get some bonus content, become part of #ButtThwompNation at patreon.com/debatethiscast

Do you like it when we talk about comics? Do you like it when we say comic words into your lil ears? Would you like more content that includes us saying comic words into your lil ears? If you begrudgingly answered yes to any of those questions, check out our sister show, Avenge This! (formally known as The Ploose is Loose) where ever you get your podcasts!

Properties we talked about this week: Just every Marvel movie to come out since 2008. SEO also dictates that I write also write Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro, Alex Jones, and Jordan B. Peterson here, but I'm not happy about it.

Debate This! - FLAVOR TEXT: Dark Souls
play

07/12/22 • 142 min

Yes, indeed. In the Age of Internet Video the world of Content Creation was unformed, shrouded by fog. A land of dancing babies, epic meals, and Star Wars kids. But then there was Podcasting and with Podcasting came disparity. De-monetization and ad revenue, Copyright strikes and brand deals. Then from the dark, they came, and found of the Sponsorships of Lords within the code. Quibi, the First of the Dead. Best Fiends and their daughters of Chaos, spelled like "friends" without the "r". Blue Apron, the Lord of Sunlight, and their faithful knights Butcher Box and Hello Fresh. Thus began the Age of Podcasting. But soon, the ad revenue will fade and only Content will remain.

Special thanks to devoted skeleton of #buttthwompnation, "mgrum54" for commissioning today's episode!

Debate This! - Ep. 90: Giovanni's Persian is a Thanos Simp
play

12/07/21 • 66 min

Did you hear? Did you hear? A new Pokemon game came out! Actually, it's not a new Pokemon game, it's an old Pokemon game. But they remade it! So it's new! Kinda. Hey, is the Pokemon formula getting a little tired? Is it time to run Pokemon through the DT!HQ machine to make it better? Is it time to make a comic book character a Pokemon Gym Leader? Probably not. But we did it anyway.

Matt mostly talks about Netflix and ghosts, but what else is new? Todd is definitely the only one talking about a genocidal villain this week. Sorry, we couldn't stop him. Also, Kyle knows way too much about Pokemon, so this is really his fight to lose.

Debate This! - FLAVOR TEXT: Pokémania
play

10/11/22 • 79 min

In September 1998, the U.S. was introduced to the franchise that would soon become a worldwide phenomenon: Pokémon. After only 18 months, Pokémon was everywhere--on TV, in car CD players, in school cafeterias, and on kids' backpacks and bedsheets. You couldn't walk 5 feet inside a Kmart and not see something with Pikachu's likeness on it. How did this come about? Why, all of a sudden, was every child aged 7-14 suddenly screaming for their parents in to buy them booster pack upon booster pack of Pokémon cards in the summer of 1999? And, why oh God why is there a Pokémon Christmas album? Find out the answers to all these questions and more on our deep dive into the late 90s cultural phenomenon that was Pokémania.

Special thanks to our first-generational Pokémon Master, "@mgrum54" for commissioning today's episode. If you're interested in comissioning your own FLAVOR TEXT, come check out our patreon at patreon.com/debatethiscast.

Debate This! - Ep. 101: Mr. Mime Lays Eggs
play

06/07/22 • 51 min

It's been a few years since the last time we remixed Pokémon gyms, but a particular question from our 100th episode put us back in that mind space. Turns out most of us also have deep trauma related to our own experiences with college internships. Who knew? So this week, we're examining the horrific truths of Pokémon's one-note minibosses by asking, "Which gym leader would host the worst college internship?"

Matt explains the internship experience that at least 50% of interns have. Todd proves to us why a Communications degree is worth it. Oh, and Kyle gets sticky. Like, really sticky.

Recommended reading: We haven't talked about Pokémon gyms since Season 1 of DT!. Here's that throwback if you'd like to check it out: https://bit.ly/3ayoZIT

What is February 1st if not the afternoon of Thanksgiving persevering, am I right? If you couldn't follow the thread on that incredibly niche joke, today we're hosting a dog show! Spend your Tuesday the way suburban families spend their post-Macy's parade afternoon as Debate This! asks, who is the goodest boi in gaming? Take a nostalgic trip back in time as Matt brings up video games' first bully. Andrew brings a back-flipping dog who kills gods to the party. To answer your question, yes he's talking about Final Fantasy. Also, the sentience of Kyle's dog makes us all a little uncomfortable.

Debate This! - Ep. 104: Skimming the Slime Out of the Bottom
play

07/19/22 • 52 min

"Oh boy, here come those dang investors again. They just won't STOP asking us to pitch them new mashups of old videogames. And it's like their asks are getting more and more hacky and uninspired each time...like, this week they just screamed 'Make NPCs a protagonist!' and then sat there, nearly frozen in place." is what we wrote in our shownotes on May 4th of 2021. Well here we are fourteen months later and hot dog we're going again! This time we ask literally the exact same question as last time, "What NPC deserves to be the protagonist in their own game?

Kyle reflects on his Barista-Era and brings an old friend from Animal Crossing to the table. Matt picked one bit this week and boy does he lean into it. Andrew takes us all on a weird, horny adventure and, you guessed it, everyone disliked that.
