Death In Entertainment - GOOD GRIEF! The Curse of the Peanuts Gang (Episode 148)
play

12/26/24 • 72 min

You know, when most people think of the Peanuts gang, they picture simple joys: Snoopy doing his happy dance, Lucy yanking that football, or Charlie Brown staring existentially at the sky, pondering the futility of life. What people don’t picture is a shadowy curse hanging over the kids who voiced these characters. But here we are.

Yes, Deados, today we’re tackling one of pop culture’s weirdest urban legends: the so-called ‘Peanuts Curse.’ Now, I know what you’re thinking—‘Curse? Really? This isn’t The Exorcist, it’s Charlie freakin’ Brown!’ And yet, the lives of many Peanuts voice actors have been marked by tragedy, struggles, or just plain bad luck. It’s as if the universe took one look at these kids and said, ‘You know what, it’s not enough for Charlie Brown to lose at baseball. Let’s make life harder for everyone involved.’

So grab your security blanket, brace yourself for a therapy session with Lucy, and join us as we dive headfirst into the offbeat, bizarre, and occasionally heartbreaking world of the Peanuts Voice Cast Curse. Who knows? Maybe by the end of this, we’ll find out the Great Pumpkin isn’t so great after all.” That’s TODAY on Death in Entertainment.

Child stardom is a strange thing. One day you’re on the cover of Tiger Beat, plastered on every teen girl’s locker, and starring on a popular TV show with the guy from "Jaws." The next day, you’re chewed up and spit out like a piece of gum stuck on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Jonathan Brandis was on top of the world at 17. At 27, he was gone. Behind the striking blue eyes and lovable smirk, was a river of sadness. This is the story of a young actor caught between who he was, who he wanted to be, and who the industry thought he should be.

Matthew Perry is dead at age 54 after a long history of substance abuse. He was found unresponsive in his hot tub after an apparent drowning due to cardiac arrest. More details to come on his exact cause of death.
Perry had a career filled with hits (a little show called FRIENDS...hello!!!), misses (best we forget THE WHOLE TEN YARDS) and everything in between (STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP). In 2022, he published a brutally honest memoir called FRIENDS, LOVERS AND THE BIG TERRIBLE THING, which focuses on his never-ending battle with drug addiction.
We were recording another episode when we got the breaking news about his death on 10/28/2023. This is our reaction. Could it BE any timelier? We go over his life and career, plus insane stories from his book.

It was a beautiful Summer Day in Sarasota, Florida on July 15, 1974. At local station WXLT, news anchor Christine Chubbuck was reading the morning’s top headlines. Little did anyone know she was about to make broadcasting history by pulling out a gun and shooting herself. Many horrified people saw it unfold live on the airwaves. But then the clip disappeared from the airwaves, never to be seen by the public again. How is that possible?
In this episode, we’re digging up the creepiest lost media files from TV and Movies. The stories behind them are so captivating, you’ll be glad we found them. Oh, and you may want to download this podcast for your archive. Just in case. So without further ado, let’s get lost... today on Death in Entertainment!
