play

05/23/22 • 51 min

The province of British Columbia in Canada was gripped by a string of disappearances and deaths of its young people in the early 1980s. At first, the police thought maybe the missing children were runaways, and didn’t spend too much of their time on the cases. However, when a 9-year-old boy disappeared and then his body was later found, the police realized that 9-year-olds don’t usually run away from home. Eventually, the police would arrest Clifford Olson, who would be dubbed “The Beast of British Columbia”. Listen to this week’s episode to hear about the 11 murders of children from the ages of 9-18 that Clifford confessed to, as well as other possible murders for which he may have been responsible.

A BIG THANK YOU TO JESS M. WHO SUGGESTED THIS EPISODE!
On October 2, 2018, Cheryl Coker dropped off her teenage daughter, Mikayla to school and supposedly went home, or at least that's what her cell phone data said. She didn't arrive to work later that morning and when Mikayla got home from school, there was no sign of Cheryl. When Cheryl's vehicle was discovered at a local Kroger grocery store later that day with Cheryl's purse and phone inside, her family knew something was wrong. CCTV footage shows a man dropping off Cheryl's car but it never caught his face. Cheryl's remains were found on April 25, 2000, and her killer is still at large. If you have information regarding her case, please contact the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations (CBI) at 800-282-3782 or you can submit a tip online on their website.

Crimes and Consequences - EP126: The Burnt House Farm

Crimes and Consequences

play

03/07/22 • 50 min

In 2003, Brian Waters and another man were sadistically tortured for hours in the cowshed of the Burnt House Farm in England. Brian's adult children were forced to watch as a group of men thought up inhumane ways to brutalize their father. One of them, Christopher Guest More, Jr., was a former television researcher who had worked undercover for the BBC only months earlier. Eventually, police arrested five men for the murder, but Christopher managed to evade justice for 16 years, living under an assumed name. During that time, he lived in a mansion on the island of Malta, captained a yacht for the wealthy, drove luxury cars, and even worked with the Moroccan Royal family. How did someone responsible for one of England's most savage murders get away with it for so long? Warning: this case is wickedly gruesome.

In the late 1970s, in Quebec, Canada, a group of young people were looking to find meaning and purpose in their lives. They found that meaning and purpose after meeting a charismatic man named Roch Theriault. Roch was a devoted follower of the Seventh Day Adventist religion, and soon this group of young people decided to cut ties with all of their friends and family, and follow Rock into the wilderness of Quebec to form a new society and way of life from scratch. They soon came to believe that Roch spoke to God and everything he did was as a result of his conversations with God--even when it came to viciously punishing them, or eventually when Roch did things where members ended up dead.

Popstar Cyndi Lauper once sang, “Money Changes Everything” and nothing could be more true. People fight about money every day, and it pits family members against one another. Husbands against wives, siblings against one another, parents vs. children...it goes on and on. One such family that was affected by money was the Mack family in Reno, Nevada. When Charla met Darren Mack and they fell madly in love, Darren didn’t mind lavishing his bride with trips and expensive gifts. But when Charla filed for divorce, the wheels fell off the bus, so to speak. Once earning in excess of $40,000.00/month, Darren claimed he only made $5,000.00/month and could afford the financial agreement he made with Charla in Court. But when he was ordered to pay Charla her million-dollar settlement, Darren lost it. He decided murder was the only way to solve his financial problems...but Charla wasn’t the only victim he had in mind.
