WIlliam Dillon was arrested for murder after cops became suspicious of his knowledge of the area. Scent dogs were brought in that linked clothing found on the scene to him. The problem is, these particular scent dogs were later found to be highly inaccurate, leading to questions about Dillon's involvement in the crime.

Frank Freshwaters was convicted of voluntary manslaughter after hitting a pedestrian in his car. He was given some grace and sentenced to parole, but he didn't want to be tied down. This led to a life of living on the run, even getting caught once and catching yet another break.
