And while the LA Galaxy are out of time, the trip to Miami might be precisely what they're looking for. On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter are getting you ready for Week 1 of the MLS season for the Galaxy. It's going to be a busy week, and right now, there's some uncertainty on who will be available for the game this weekend. Josh and Kevin will start by taking the most profound look at the team this preseason. And Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney gave us plenty to ponder. What has this preseason done to advance the Galaxy? And what can we take from the final game in the Sun Cup Tournament? The guys will also talk about the preseason debuts for Oneil Fisher and Samuel Grandsir and why they're both significant additions to the roster. Could we see either of them against Miami? Josh and Kevin will also do their best to get you caught up to speed on Sebastian Lletget's social media mess-up and why that could mean he doesn't make the trip to Florida. But really, MLS should stop and take a breath to understand there's nothing they can do to make this better. Should Lletget be able to play this weekend? And then there's the question of Inter Miami and whether or not they'll be ready for a match against the Galaxy. With no preseason games, some covid issues, and a roster that probably won't be compliant until right before the deadline, the Galaxy might be the team with better form on the day. But will that translate into a stolen victory? Or will it mean the Galaxy aren't getting that US Open Cup bid? That's right, Panda. I want my $100! We've got a packed show for you on a Monday night. Happy game week, everyone!

COG STUDIOS, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy are facing their final test of the regular season. And the game couldn't be any higher stakes. With a victory over the Houston Dynamo on Sunday, the club can vault itself into the postseason. With anything less than all three points, the Galaxy would start a very long offseason. COG SCARF (COG20): https://corner-of-the-galaxy.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/2018-corner-of-the-galaxy-scarf On today's show, your hosts Josh Guesman and Eric Vieira are back to get you ready for the biggest game of the season. And while we've certainly said that before, we're once again right about it. The guys start by getting you up to date on team news and discuss rumors about Dario Benedetto while highlighting the man's skill as he scored for Boca Juniors earlier in the week. They'll also discuss the Galaxy's travel and training schedule while giving you the latest on a healthy Giovani dos Santos. Next, the guys will break down some charts about the Galaxy's spending habits in 2018 and tell you who's taking 34% of the payroll and why the club no longer has the most expensive defender or defense. Then, Eric will wow you with his excellent ability to chart out a bunch of "wacky" MLS scenarios that probably just have the Galaxy playing Seattle, before diving head first into the Galaxy's chances of making the postseason along with some crazy stats about Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The lion is doing lion things, again. Finally, the guys preview the clash with the Dynamo as they tell you why the Galaxy are favorites and why the club can't take their visitors likely. Has history taught the Galaxy to bury their weaker opponents? Well, it should have. Also, we're big in Sweden and we want to go to Sweden to do a podcast. And adios wooden spoon! CoG Studios, CA -- The LA Galaxy lost to New York City FC on Sunday and didn't exactly drape themselves in glory over the first 45-minutes. But there were some positives to take away from the game. And that includes the mild success of the second half. Your hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter are back to give you their usual insights into the game. Why did the Galaxy struggle in the first half and what positive can you take from the halftime adjustments? Plus, how are there more injuries? And how many players could the Galaxy be short when they face off against the Vancouver Whitecaps in 13 days? This podcast will also dive deep into the questions surrounding Giovani dos Santos. Understanding he was injured in the first half, is there more to his downward spiral than just fitness? Is Giovani dos Santos on the verge of being benched? Has Sigi Schmid already benched him in the previous games? And what does this mean for the Mexico National Team? Could he be staying in Los Angeles over the World Cup break if he doesn't start having some success on the field? Finally, Josh and Kevin attack all your questions, give you fun stats, and even discuss the leash Schmid is on. Could he be shipped off before his plan has come together? And who are you naming captain if the Galaxy are missing eight or nine players for the Vancouver match? The guys will even discuss VAR and why it wasn't used on Ashley Cole's dubious second yellow! This is an information packed show that will make you the smartest Galaxy fan at your next watch party! Music Provided by Back Pocket Memory

CoG Studios, CA -- The LA Galaxy are in hot pursuit of several options at striker. But if you read the comments from twitter everyone is asking why the Galaxy are going so small? On today's show, host Josh Guesman will remind you of all the roster rules the Galaxy currently have and why it's important to take some risks on some smaller names that could give you a huge payoff. First Josh will start off going over all the recent signings of players. Including Perry Kitchen, David Bingham, and Servando Carrasco. You'll find out how much each trade cost the Galaxy and where each is expected to fit into the lineup. Have the Galaxy finally put enough pieces together that a starting lineup can be formed? How's the team starting to shape up? Are you satisfied that Sigi Schmid has a plan? Next, we'll shift into some of the most ridiculous rumors this side of the Mississipi. As you attempt to sign Chicharito (Javier Hernandez) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Josh pushes back and forces some of MLS' very best roster rules on you. Why does the deal with Ola Kamara still make sense? And why could the Colorado Rapids be pulling ahead in the race to land him? And does it have anything to do with Rodrigo Aguirre's name being thrown into the Galaxy hat? But should the club take a risk on a 23-year old striker who has a history of Knee problems? There are so many different reactions to all of these players that we're glad we had so many calls. We'll answer all the calls, all your twitter questions, and a lot more! CoG Studios, CA - The LA Galaxy dropped another home game. They've only won once at StubHub Center in 2017, and it doesn't look like the road gets any easier. The question must be asked: Is this Galaxy team good enough? Your hosts Josh Guesman and Britt Pergl are here to walk you through 60+ minutes of Galaxy talk and to make sure you understand where this team stands. Together they'll get into a plethora of topics and answer a bunch of listener questions in an attempt to make you sound like the smartest Galaxy fan at your next tailgate. They'll start by trying to understand what went right and what went wrong for the Galaxy as they lost to the Vancouver Whitecaps. And they'll even attempt to understand what is causing so many issues at StubHub Center for the club. Is it a mental block? A mindset that just isn't carrying them past the finish line when it matters most? Are captains and veterans failing to lead the team? Or is the problem with the amount of talent the Galaxy are playing with and the lack of leadership from the bench and front office? Your calls are the highlight of this show as we get into some bad sushi, some positive thoughts and a whole bunch of calls calling the Galaxy front office to stop messing around! Plus, Josh and Britt will get you updated on all your Galaxy news. Where did one of the rumored Designated Player targets end up landing? And how realistic was he going to be? And it's been awfully quiet surrounding Zlatan's possible future with the club. Are talks dead? Josh will give you all the news you ever wanted to know. As well as give you updates on Galaxy All-Stars and Video Assistant Referee (coming to an MLS game near you very soon). Finally, they'll get you ready for the Galaxy's very long trip across the country to face a New England Revolution team that hasn't played since July 5th. Don't you just love MLS scheduling? The second half of the season is underway. So someone should really tell the Galaxy! Music Provided by Back Pocket Memory.

Corner Of The Galaxy - Stats Be Damned, The LA Galaxy are Winning!

05/30/17 • 63 min

CoG Studios, CA - The LA Galaxy have won three games in a row and they've all come on the road! Hosts Josh Guesman and LA Times Soccer Reporter, Kevin Baxter, are here to tell you what is going on. They'll put the most recent winning streak, and the most recent win over the San Jose Earthquakes, into perspective and give you all the reasons it might not last. But also, all the reasons everyone has been witness to something that is happening right now. Josh and Kevin will point out the players who once again did well and they'll find some that didn't do so well. Is it time that the Galaxy starts benching one of their most popular players? Should Gyasi Zardes be sent to the bench in order to give someone else the chance to get those minutes? Isn't that part of the Galaxy's offseason plan - to start younger players and give them a chance? But what about the play of Giovani dos Santos, Romain Alessandrini, and Jelle Van Damme? Are we finally seeing what a dangerous offense looks like? And the hustle seems to be coming from both sides of the ball. The defense is also making itself known. And while everything seems like it's falling into place, the Galaxy picked up another injury. We'll give you updates about Daniel Steres, Alessandrini, and Emmanuel Boateng. What could their absences mean for the Galaxy and what do our hosts think is their prognosis? Finally, the guys discuss a big chance for the Galaxy to take a player away from LAFC. It might be a long shot but they'll discuss the likelihood of a battle of Javier Hernandez. Could the Carson team be the first one's in line for the Mexican goal scorer? We've got a great show with nearly 60-minutes of Galaxy talk. We're glad you could join us and we look forward to bringing you the latest and greatest Galaxy news! CoG Studios, CA - Another LA Galaxy win on the road? You betcha! And your hosts Josh Guesman and Wendy Thomas are ready to give you more than 60 minutes of Galaxy centered soccer talk to get you up to the game this weekend and prepared for the very first Cali-Clasico of the 2017 season. First, Josh and Wendy breakdown the important topics regarding the Galaxy's 2-1 win over Minnesota United FC last weekend. Obviously, they'll discuss the sublime goal from Giovani dos Santos and what that means to the Galaxy. But they'll also touch on some of the negatives to come out of this game. The Baggio Husidic injury weight large in terms of who will be available to play on Saturday and what that could mean to a team that is just starting to find their form. There will be lots of talk about Galaxy news as well. What event has both hosts scrambling to secure a scarf? And where can you get an awesome pride towel? And which player will make a surprise appearance at an upcoming event? Then Josh and Wendy really break into prep for the rivalry game on Saturday. If you're driving up to San Jose for the game make sure you take us along. We've got almost 2.5 hours of your trip covered. What do both hosts expect from the game? Will we get a scoreless draw? Or another wacky rivalry game that ends up with seven goals on the scoreboard? Plus, your hosts debate the ever popular topic of which mascot is better. It's not a long debate and if you didn't already know the answer, we'll question your loyalty. We've got a great show and we're glad that you chose to spend the time with us! Until next time!
