Contributors11/30/22 • 28 min
In this episode, Russell sits down with Christine Bergeron, the President and CEO of Vancity. As a values-based financial cooperative, Vancity uses its assets to improve the financial well-being of its members and their communities. The company puts its members, their communities, and the planet at the centre of everything they do by giving back 30% of their profits to members and communities every year. With over 500,000 members, Vancity is a profitable co-op that’s taking action on climate change, affordable housing, and reconciliation through a decision making process that depends on an impact lens. Despite being local to British Columbia, the thriving community co-op has a lot to offer other Canadian organizations that are looking for ways to improve their business and make Canada a better place.
After this episode, you’ll learn:
- Why a “triple bottom line” includes people and the planet
- Why Vancity takes an impact approach in decision making
- How Vancity is working towards reconciliation
- How leaders can spark innovation at their own organizations
