Connection First
12/17/24 • 21 min

#13 Three Ways We Can Help Our Kids Enjoy More Reading
Connection First
08/15/23 • 15 min
The theme of reading has always been an elemental part of our family, reading to them from a very young age and making it a part of our daily routine.
For a few years now, they have started to read, and I've paid great attention to the topic of creating good reading habits.
Now that my children are 7 and 9 years old, I see how both read quite a bit and enjoy it tremendously.
In this episode, I share (with much excitement because I love the topic) the THREE things that I believe have been KEY to fostering that love for reading at home. I explain why I think that the "when" has nothing to do with how much children can enjoy reading. I also share some of the many benefits of reading - to motivate you to support your children in reading!
An essential part of the process is helping them discover and acquire books they like. Going to the library, ordering online, exploring new series, or supporting them in buying more books from the series they enjoy!
I'm sharing some of the favourite series thanks to what I've seen and heard from my children and their friends. For more books and reviews, you can check my Instagram @connection_first where I'm always sharing more and reviewing books for kids.

#14 Raising Bilingual Children
Connection First
09/05/23 • 16 min
I still remember clearly the first time it happened. We were walking in central London when Matias saw a guy making bubbles. He asked me in Spanish to go closer, and when he got close enough, the bubble guy started talking to him in English, and he answered every question. Then he turned to me and said something in Spanish. This kept going for a few minutes, switching so easily between the two languages.
Our boys were both born in English-speaking countries, and our intention has always been to raise them in Spanish.
Admittedly, we thought it would be an easy ride: at school, they would learn English, and at home, they'd talk in Spanish. But it hasn't, and that's exactly why situations like the one with the bubble guy make us proud and inspired me to share with you in this episode a bit about our journey with raising bilingual kids.
In this episode, I share a few insights into this journey, with THREE SPECIFIC STRATEGIES I believe have been super important along the way, with the hope to help more families in the same position, and with the same hopes as us.
If you find it useful, please remember to share it with a friend who might enjoy it too!
Thank you for being here 🤍.

#23 Understanding highly sensitive kids and the role we play as parents when our kids need therapy support
Connection First
05/17/24 • 46 min
In this conversation with Lauren from Stuttering Free Kids, we dive deep into the role parents play when kids need therapy support, specifically related to speech.
Lauren is a pediatric speech pathologist specializing in highly sensitive kids. She tells us how we can recognize if we have a highly sensitive child and then be able to help and support them in a much better way. We also explore the relationship between these kids and particular situations related to speech.
I think parents with kids struggling with stuttering, and any parent, can really benefit from Lauren's holistic and integrated approach on how to support our children when they go through challenges.
I hope you enjoy this interview!

#11 Cómo Hacer Que Nuestros Hijos Hablen Con Nosotros
Connection First
07/13/23 • 15 min
Gacias!

When, in a few years, someone asks our children, "What were Christmases like at your house?" — what do we want them to say? What memories do we want them to carry with them?
It’s not the gifts that truly stay in their memory. It’s that feeling of warmth, the sense of connection they experience during this season, the moments spent together as a family, and the overall atmosphere they perceive at home.
For years, I’ve complained that in Australia “everything happens at once!”: Christmas, the end of the school year, summer... it’s a lot! But this year, I decided to do something different. Instead of staying stuck in the complaints, I chose to approach it from a place of gratitude and to find a way to enjoy this season with more calm. I haven’t managed it every single day, but I have definitely felt much more present (and less rushed!) than in previous years.
To make that shift, I put into practice a few things that have really helped me.
Today, I want to share some of those ideas with you, because I know I’m not the only one with a head full of a million things. I hope they help you create real moments of connection with your children and enjoy a more present, mindful Christmas.
Enjoy it! 🎄❤️
