A Change in Comedy
Come Rain or Shine
07/02/20 • 12 min
Special guest, Jacob Chancelor, joins me to discuss his story as well as a special project he’s working on.
A former Disney cruise ship entertainer, Jacob discusses his transition to London where he’s now pursuing his master’s degree. As part of his final project, Jacob has spent recent months creating and producing a new type of live entertainment. The project involves a show entitled, “The Bar at the Edge of [Blank]” where guests can choose their adventure through a unique blend of script and impromptu.
As Jacob goes on to explain, he hopes to not only provide comic relief to a country in distress but also change the way audiences participate in the live entertainment.
At this time, the show is set to take place July 13-14 at the Crooked Can Brewery in Winter Garden Florida. Participants can also stream the show live for free. For those interested in contributing to Jacob’s cause, you can visit his Kickstarter link below:

How to Get Your First Break
Come Rain or Shine
06/25/20 • 15 min
Have you ever wondered how to get your ‘in’ in a company? What qualifies one candidate above another in a given job search?
If so, you’re not alone. After all, in a sea of resumes, standing out can seem impossible with many applications desperate for a hook or a lead. But as I’ve been telling college graduates these days, if you want to help your chances, you must be willing to meet people and take a personalized approach to networking. Even if you have to associate outside your comfort zone, to catch your first break, often that’s the place you want to be.
As I discuss this episode, many are those who are qualified but far less are those who differentiate by seeking advice. By seeking to make meaningful connections, you’ll ultimately give yourself the advantage you crave in landing your dream job.

Get Ahead by Being Resourceful
Come Rain or Shine

Chelsea Brinkley, an entrepreneur and rock star executive assistant, is sharing her journey today.
At the age of 29, Chelsea embarked on the journey of remote work after experiencing corporate burn out. As a successful Executive Assistant, Chelsea discovered her organizational strength and ability to set up systems and processes was a service that many entrepreneurs need. Coupling her skillset with her desire to break away from being tethered to an office building, Chelsea and her husband Jeff transitioned to the remote lifestyle.
In the remote world, the survival of the fittest is resourcefulness. Those who survive and thrive know when to Google and when to ask questions. Understanding how to find the “how to’s” of tools and ideas is what gives remote entrepreneurs the best edge in their industry. The ability to solve problems and offer outstanding service turns clients into raving fans and allows businesses to grow by word of mouth.
When considering a career path, it is important to ask hard questions. Can I do what I am doing until I retire? What steps do I need to take to live a life I truly love? With organization, follow through and resourcefulness, anything is possible.

You Create Your Own Opportunities
Come Rain or Shine
06/11/20 • 19 min
Opportunities. It’s easy to want them, much harder to chase them.
I know when I was younger, there were times I passively wished for certain outcomes hoping they would fall in my lap. I thought if I just positioned myself right, good things would automatically happen. Yet, as I now know, what you plan for is rarely what occurs. If our pursuit of opportunities is chained to our expectations of them, chances are you won’t get far with the goals you have.
As Jody and I discuss in this episode, when times get tough, don’t just seek a solution; create an opportunity. Sometimes, we’re too desperate to find an answer, we forget how to actively receive an answer. By taking charge and being self-motivated, you can give yourself the advantage to mature your knowledge and influence.
If you want to create a new opportunity tomorrow, try going online and subscribing to a newsletter you haven’t subscribed to before...learning something new that you don’t know anything about...and connecting with people who have things in common with you and people who don’t have anything in common with you.

Plan Your Work and Work Your Plan
Come Rain or Shine

Cynthia Blackwell of Cynthia Blackwell Consulting joins in to discuss her corporate story and current work.
As a business coach, mentor, and keynote speaker, Cynthia has the unique ability to fuse life and spark ideas with creative business savvy. Tagged “The Rain-Maker” by colleagues and clients, Cynthia’s relational approach to people and processes are not only essential for growth but cultural transformation. In her mind, good leaders don’t settle on assessment but commit the investment be it employees, systems, and/or strategies.
As Cynthia continues, the art of evaluation doesn’t just pertain to team-building, but also team-nurturing. To the extent, leaders mature their influence, to that extent they mature the influence of their teams.

Adding a Side Gig to Your Regular Job
Come Rain or Shine
05/28/20 • 24 min
When we talk about the coronavirus, we often talk about the negatives and negatives alone. Health concerns, economic trends, first-world convenience issues – clearly it’s been a hindrance for many. But the virus has also brought with it some silver linings and surprises.
For instance, I’ve noticed many furloughed entrepreneurs diversifying their portfolios, developing new products and processes as side gigs to their day jobs. While these endeavors may be temporary, they are nonetheless tapping into peripheral skill sets to help people make ends meet. From my end, this is one of the most underrated hallmarks of the year. If business leaders can embrace greater technology, remote systems, and their employees making a difference outside the 9-5, no question we’ll be a more mature society moving forward.

Being Creative with New Ideas
Come Rain or Shine
05/21/20 • 17 min
In trying times, often the best ideas are the most creative. With many companies suffering due to current health and economic issues, entrepreneurs and business leaders around the world are having to think outside the box to make ends meet.
One of these leaders I’ve had the privilege of conversing with recently is an innovator employed by the University of Buffalo. In our discussion, we talked about the difference between virtual and augmented reality in terms of connection, translation, and leveraged technology. We also talked about how this dichotomy can be a valuable concept when teamed with a conference app like Zoom and interactive platforms allowing participants to engage content options in virtual rooms.

The Impact of Conflict and Candor
Come Rain or Shine
05/14/20 • 22 min
One of the hardest aspects of leadership is understanding and resolving conflict. For some leaders, the issue isn’t so much the problem itself, but the perception of surrounding context. If conflict isn’t necessarily a collision of two opposing views, what is it exactly? Could conflict actually be a good thing?
As I discuss in this episode, conflict can be a valuable tool when approached with candor. For instance, at Disney, whenever disagreements arose, I’d exercise critique through positivity and transparency. This, in turn, allowed me to navigate challenges with courage and risk with honest assessment. In many ways, leadership is the same way. To lead well, you ultimately have to negotiate and mediate varying perspectives. Perhaps this is why many resources today talk about accountability through the lens of constructive communication.

The Importance of Healthy Relationships, Empowerment, and Delegation
Come Rain or Shine
07/09/20 • 29 min
Dr. Eric George joins me to discuss his story as well as relational trends in today’s economy.
A man of many hats, Dr. George has experience across multiple realms. Not only is Dr. George the founder and CEO of ERG Enterprises, Omega Hospital, and the Hand Center of Louisiana in New Orleans, but he is also a venture capitalist, real estate investor, author, and philanthropist.
Across each responsibility, Dr. George emphasizes the importance of healthy relationships, empowerment, and delegation. In light of more enterprise going virtual, he believes business leaders would be wise to screen for culture fits in their team building. As the coronavirus has taught us, many businesses can function remotely based on our current technological state. Accordingly, prospective employees will be looking to work from home in an environment where trust is established.
