College Recruiting Weekly Podcast - Episode 67: When Is the Right Time to Leave College Coaching?

Episode 67: When Is the Right Time to Leave College Coaching?

03/09/19 • 39 min

College Recruiting Weekly Podcast
It's a tough question: "When is the right time to leave college coaching?" It's a question that gets thought about frequently, but discussed openly among coaches rarely. Why? Pride, ego, and job preservation. If your staff or athletic director knew you were thinking about leaving the profession, they might assume you've just lost the heart and drive to succeed in the job, and look for a replacement. But the question itself is important. This is your life, Coach, and being in charge of what you do with that life is up to you. On today's episode, we talk to former Division I assistant coach Chris Passmore, who left his job as a college coach a few years ago and has found a side of living that he hadn't known before. His story isn't supposed to apply to all coaches, and we're not suggesting coaching is something you need to leave right now - or ever. But we thought it would be helpful to walk through some of the questions and topics that we raise in this conversation, just to ensure you're in the right place professionally. Thanks for listening, Coach! Questions about the show, or have a topic idea? Email [email protected]

Episode 66: Branding Lessons for Coaches From Zion Williamson's Exploding Shoe

In the most recent edition in the storied college basketball rivalry between Duke and the University of North Carolina, Blue Devils' star Zion Williamson lost his footing trying to make a cut in the first minute of the game, causing his Nike basketball shoe to fall apart. Fortunately, he only suffered a mild knee sprain. Nike, on the other hand, had to endure social media hell, getting criticized and poked fun at for the shoe failure seen on national television. That public relations brand crisis has big lessons for college coaches. In this episode of the College Recruiting Weekly podcast, recruiting expert Dan Tudor outlines six strategies taken from this event and applies them to coaches who want to approach recruiting, story telling and brand development for their programs the right way.
