Dr. Lisa Orbé-Austin, a licensed psychologist, executive coach, and author known for her expertise in imposter syndrome talks with IOC Executive Director, Jeff Hull. Dr. Orbé-Austin has over 20 years of experience working with high potential managers and executives, consulting on various topics such as gender bias, diversity, equity, inclusion, leadership development, effective communication, team cohesion, and conflict management.
Dr. Orbé-Austin shifts to Dr. Austin's personal journey. She shares her struggles with imposter syndrome, particularly during her academic career. She pursued counseling psychology, earning her Ph.D. While in her Ph.D. program, she encountered imposter syndrome and over her academic and professional career found that traditional mental health professionals weren't well-equipped to address it as it is not considered a diagnostic criteria. This realization fueled her passion to work on imposter syndrome and provide support through coaching.
Her journey led to the opportunity to write two bestselling books on imposter syndrome after a publisher discovered her blogs. The podcast segment provides insights into Dr. Austin's personal experiences, academic struggles, and how her expertise in imposter syndrome evolved, highlighting the importance of coaching in addressing this common but often overlooked phenomenon.
