Coach Glass Podcast - CGP Ep98 Dr.Greg Rose The Interview
play

11/04/15 • 31 min

You asked for it and you got it! This is a special episode for me as Dr. Rose has been a huge influence on my career. I remember the first time I saw the Golf Fitness Academy on the Golf Channel and I said to myself "I would love to be on that show". Then I attended the TPI Level 1 seminar when it came through Vancouver and I said “Id love to be on that stage one day!” Both these visions came true. #DreamBig and #Overdeliver my good friends. That is exactly what Dr. Rose did and continues to do in his business and career. A true leader and pioneer . We discuss all of this and more in this episode of the #CoachGlassPodcast. Enjoy it! Greg is a board certified Doctor of Chiropractic and holds an engineering degree from the University of Maryland. Greg specializes in assessing and treating golfers, 3-dimensional biomechanics, strength and conditioning, manual therapy, rehabilitation, nutritional supplementation and therapeutic exercises. Combining an engineering background with an expertise on the human body, Greg helped pioneer the field of analyzing 3-dimensional motion capture models of the golf swing. That research has helped golf professionals all over the world gain a better understanding of how the body works during the golf swing. Through the past 17 years, Greg has helped thousands of golfers of all skill levels reach peak athletic performance. His cutting edge yet research-based form of functional training combined with golf-specific motor learning drills have made Greg one of golf’s top strength and conditioning professionals. Greg also helped develop the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), a revolutionary movement assessment that helps identify altered motor control and guides medical practitioners on how to treat patients more efficiently. Greg frequently appears on the Golf Channel as part of the Titleist Performance Institute weekly show. The TPI certification seminar series has made Greg one of the most requested speakers in golf health and fitness. He has lectured in over 21 countries and has been featured in many golf and news publications. @performbetter @mytpi #CoachGlassNextLevel #DreamBig #OverDeliver #BeUndeniable Coach Glass

Most people avoid pain and suffering at any cost. Others chase it! Skin your knee skateboarding? You either quit or you climb back up the staircase and give that rail another try. Stand in front of 150 drunk comedy fans and bomb? Normal, psychologically balanced individuals would walk off with their tail between their legs, never to grace the stage again. But a comic has a different reaction. There is a dark hole inside them that needs to be filled. Like the adrenalin rush of landing a 12-stair backside smith grind, landing a joke briefly quenches the comedian's thirst for killing on stage. I get asked a lot about what it is like to do stand-up and how I got started. Coming off an incredible weekend of comedy at the World Famous YukYuks I thought I would share my Road to COMEDY. Want to journey down this lonely highway of bombs and laughs yourself? Get a helmet and some knee pads. It's going to be a bumpy ride. 2024 Coach Glass Mentorship Applications are now Open! Coach Glass Podcast - CGP Ep486 #YOJAY Why Do We Train?
play

03/21/23 • 39 min

I have a #YOJAY to ask myself. In other words, I have questions that run through my mind that need answering. The problem is that my answers are coming from my singular perspective. This perspective determines my beliefs and influences my actions. It is not until we are introduced to a different perspective that our beliefs can be altered. My question is, why do we train? Seriously! What are we training for. If you are not an athlete or have a job/hobby that requires physical exerction, why would we stress our bodies the way we do in the gym? I have a skewed viewpoint because i am a strength coach. I am like a drug dealer who only sees addicts and who gets high off his own supply. This limited perspective would have you think that the whole world lives this life or a version of this. Rarely do we take a step back and look at the other ways we can live our lives. Hopefully this episode will answer my question to myself. I also share some fun comedy club stories for those of you who ask for more behind the scenes stories about the life of a comic! We are hosting the 2023 Mentorship this April. Home study for 4 weeks followed by 5 weeks of live Zoom sessions. Anything that is worth achieving requires sacrifice. It can be time, money, effort, security, or your sanity. The key is making the right goal and understanding the consequences and sacrifices it will take to acquire it. If you want to have a world class BBQ you need to marinate the meat first. Dry rub or vinegar based doesn't matter. It just needs the right ingredients for the right amount of time to get the desired outcome. Whiskey and wine aged in a barrel will yield the best results. Age them in your bathtub and you will have hobo hooch! So the environment matters. Once you test the outcome you need to make notes, adjust the recipe, time and setting and tweak the next batch. Life is the same. Anything you are passionate about requires the right ingredients, skill and time to marinate. Relationships, raising children, growing your business, mastering your golf game, sculpting you body or balancing your life, all take marinating to get it right. Problem is, nobody got time for dat! We want it now. "I want a Masterclass played at 2x speed so I can learn years of skill mastery in 5 minutes. No time to practice, just got to nail the first take. Watch it back, get some feedback, nobody got time for dat...print it. Hey how come nobody likes it? Why aren't people talking about it?" Well I'll tell you. I don't have time to waste on half baked ideas that aren't executed to the best of my abilities. Its not worth it to me, my brand and I owe it to my audience to put my best product out each and every time. So we work on it, review it, receive constructive feedback form respected peers and then keep working on it. What product am I talking about? All of them. Listen and learn if you can find the time. If you need to explore your purpose or need guidance and mentorship to help you accomplish your DreamBIG, we have a group starting up this month. Coach Glass Podcast - CGP Ep432 Speed Protocol 2022
play

02/17/22 • 60 min

Everyone wants more speed. I have lectured for over a decade on rotational power as it was the hot topic on the sport performance circuit. Now it is all about speed. These 2 topics are basically talking about the same thing. Where we focus the lens may change but it is still about hitting the ball farther. Kinematic sequencing, ground reaction force, rotational plyometrics, neuromuscular training or all out power. Pick your poison and then jump in the rabbit hole with both feet! In this episode I share my philosophy on speed training and the tools I use to activate the athlete and measure the speed they produce. I also debate the various training protocols that are quickly becoming the doctrine. The authors of these programs may not like what I have to say but if I can't stand on my soap box and put my 2 cents in...why do I have a microphone? All the protocols I share from each organization work. You can try them all and let me know which one works best for you! If you want to get in the speed game I have some nice discounts for you. **Spoiler Alert** You don't have to watch the Squid Games to learn from the Squid Games. Today we do a deep dive into the underlying theme on the record breaking Squid Games Netflix series. It is all about the human condition. At the deepest level we are simply organisms fighting for survival. Luckily for most of us, we live in a bubble wrapped world where our food, shelter and basic needs are readily accessible. That doesn't mean that our survival mechanism is lost. It is just hiding deep inside our reptile brain. When released, this survival mechanism is expressed in the rawest form. The best and worst inside us is revealed. This is what makes the Squid Games so riveting. What would you do if you were faced with a life and death decision that would determine whether you or your competitor continues in the game of life? Die with honour or live with the pain of knowing that you took the life of an other. Luckily in business and sport it isn't life or death. But somehow we are faced with the same decisions. Which one do you choose? Thank you to our sponsors. @mytpi @perform_better Register for all your MyTPI classes here: http://www.mytpi.com/certification/seminar-calendar Want to buy some equipment? Coach Glass Podcast - CGP Ep409 Testing for High Performance Part 1
play

09/08/21 • 38 min

The start of the 2022 PGATour, NFL, NHL and NBA are just around the corner. This means it is time to test our professional athletes and get a baseline for the year. Testing lets us know where the athlete stands on a functional movement level, strength and power outputs, neuromuscular function and readiness to compete. There are a ton of wearable technologies that you can use to track the progress of your athletes. Just understand that whether you track it or not, it still is happening. How accurate the devices are is a debate for another day. The important thing to do is make sure that your testing protocols are consistent, repeatable and reliable against themselves. If you got on a scale that says you are 150 lbs when you know you are 200 lbs you can still use the scale. As long as it is accurate to itself it will indicate whether you gained or lost weight. Is the number the important thing or is it the awareness of change you are looking for. Accuracy only matters when you want to compare against norms. Before you start posting your angry retorts, I believe you should always use the most accurate devices possible, just making a point here. So what do you test for? What is important to you? What do you want to know more about when it comes to your athlete's progress? In this episode I go DEEP into what I like to measure and why I measure it. I also discuss common screening systems and help a Glistener decide if he should go to @mytpi Fitness Level 2 or Medical 2. My reasoning behind it is a lesson in itself! Strap on your heart rate monitor and come along for the ride. Register for all your MyTPI classes here: http://www.mytpi.com/certification/seminar-calendar Want to buy some equipment?
