Clarky's Closet
Mark Clark
I narrate stories about, and the background to, my albums and my musicals. These include: Rock Songs, Love Songs, Children's Songs, Pop Songs, Sing Along with History songs and one longer show about how I put the entire poem of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor to music. In this show I play all 21 songs that I wrote to cover the entire poem.
The other 35 shows contain five or six songs and one final podcast 37, where I talk about my Memories of Pip, when I played that part in the ABCs 1973 version of 7 Little Australians.

Pirates, Parrots and Penguins
Clarky's Closet
01/16/23 • 26 min
As a Drama Teacher at Windsor High School, NSW Australia, between 1995 and 2001 I wrote and produced eight musical comedies. This podcast is about the first musical: 'Pirates, Parrots and Penguins'.
I narrate the podcast and talk about when the songs were written and retell any interesting stories related to each, and about the production itself.
I have chosen six of the play's twelve songs for this episode. All of the songs are fully produced and include all instrumentation. One of my ex-students provided the female voice and I played and recorded everything else.

LOGLINE
Dodge City Kansas – 1879. Wyatt Earp is long gone and the new sheriff has a drinking problem. Gunslinger, Jimmy Hackett, is terrorising the town; Sally is in love with Daniel; he is in love with Virginia and she is not interested in men from the South.
SHORT SYNOPSIS
The days of the Wild West are ending and the law is catching up with the gun, but the residue of the old world still lives on in the ruthless heart of gunslinger Jim Hackett, who terrorises Dodge City unchallenged by Cal, the local sheriff with a drinking problem.
Set in a bar in Kansas 1879-80, and against the backdrop of a rapidly changing U.S.A., ‘Dodge City’ is the story of piano player, Danny, his love for singer, Virginia, and of bartender, Sally, and her love for Daniel. Virginia hails from Georgia and in spite of her acerbic disposition and constant disparaging remarks about northern men, Danny is still heartbroken when she returns to Savannah to marry. In her absence, Danny and Sally hitch up, but when Virginia returns for the 1880 New Year’s celebrations, pursued by an angry and murderous Jim Hackett, a few surprises are in store.
