Cineppraisal.
What... is our quest?
To talk about our favorite movies.
What... is this way of speaking?
Watch the film and find out!
Today, we’re discussing one of the most beloved and long-lasting comedies of all time, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Black Knights, French Taunters, Bridges of Peril, Plagues, Self-Flagellations, Non-Witches, Political Arguments, Temptresses, Bloody Weddings, Eccentric Enchanters, and of course, Killer Rabbits may or may not be a part of your viewing experience. It is ridiculous? Yes. Is it quotable? Yes. Are there lots of questions? Most definitely. It’s a film unlike any other, so join us in our quest... for the Holy Grail.

What if I told you... that everything you know is— wait, Morpheus never said that? Oh, well, still! Forget about what you think you know.... or something or other. Ever feel like you’re just stuck in a dream with too many allusions to Lewis Carroll for some reason? Imagine a world filled with skin-tight leather outfits, lots of guns, and at least two cats. No, wait, it was just the same one twice... oh, and the world itself isn’t real, but there is a real world somewhere... except it’s filled with robots. Maybe you’re a chosen one! Maybe you’re not really! Maybe you were too busy looking at the woman in the red dress! Maybe you wanted to fit a joke about Point Break somewhere in this description, but couldn’t figure out how! Knock, knock, Neo. You can take the blue pill and just watch The Matrix, or you can take the red pill and watch it with us! It’s an all new distancely-recorded Cineppraisal. Why does Adam sound like he's stuck inside the Matrix, you ask? Because he probably is!Cineppraisal is an audio commentary podcast, designed to be played alongside the movies we talk about. The original action star, Buster Keaton, at it again in what might be his all-time biggest spectacle. 1927’s “The General” still boasts practical stunts that will leave you floored and cringing as Keaton goes on a high-speed chase to save the Woman and Steam Engine he loves. Hop onboard The General with Dax & Adam, and see why almost every action star to follow, from Jackie Chan to Harrison Ford, would go on to draw inspiration from the seemingly immortal director and star.

The Woman in Black

There’s something wrong in that massive house, in the middle of a lake, in the Edwardian English countryside, and it’ll take an insurance clerk (Daniel Radcliffe “Horns,” “Other Movies”) and a small town noble (Ciarán Hinds “Game of Thrones,” “There Will Be Blood”) to unravel a mystery of unspeakable horror. 2012’s “The Woman in Black” is a full-throated return to form for Hammer Films, the undisputed masters of horror in the 1960s and 70s. So, strap in because it’s going to get dark as Dax slowly realizes what this movie is really about!

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. A bandit, a samurai, and his bride walk into a grove and.... Oh wait, you have? How does it go? The bride falls in love with the bandit? But I thought she was traumatized and begged for her husband’s forgiveness. Wait, who’s the woodcutter in all this? And why is there a medium in court giving viable testimony? That’s right, our inaugural episode is on Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon! Have a hard time remembering things? Well strap in, ‘cause you have no idea (and neither do we).

Take me away! I don't mind! Seriously, have you seen the news? Cineppraisal is back in time, to take you back in time, with Back... to the Future! Robert Zemeckis's 1985 classic tale of an old man and a teenage boy exploring the good times and casual racism of the 1950s. And doing it with some style! It’s all fun and games as they swindle terrorists out of plutonium, avoid temporal paradoxes, and learn to change their respective densities. It's gonna get Heavy. So, grab your cassette player and throw on some Huey Lewis. Cause, y'know, that's the power of love.
