Director MIKE FLANAGAN's Binge List
05/04/20 • 77 min
We have talked about Mike Flanagan’s films (Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, Gerald's Game, Oculus) a lot over the years, so when he puts out a list of movies he’s been watching during the lockdown, we take notice.. and we totally steal it and do a whole episode about it. We go down the list and discuss our own opinions about these films, and guess what? Flanagan is right, these are some seriously good movies. Not all of them are mainstream or well-known and in fact many of them are low-budget, under-the-radar independent movies - the kind you should be spending your money on. Right? We want more of those, don’t we. Yes, we do. Here’s a great list - and we love lists, don’t we? Yes we do. We can almost guarantee that there’s a few here you’ve never even heard of.
SPOILER WARNING: This episode contains LIGHT SPOILERS which means important story details will be revealed. We always advise listeners to: Watch First Listen Later.
Music composed and performed by Burk Sauls.

Director CHARLES HOOD: A Nasty Piece of Work
The Cinemondo gang welcomes special guest, writer, director, producer Charles Hood. Charles talks with us about his film A NASTY PIECE OF WORK, a twisted and hilariously dark episode of Hulu’s INTO THE DARK. We also talk about his dark comedy, NIGHT OWLS, starring Adam Pally and Rosa Salazar. We get into the various inspirations and ideas that spark the creative process and we get the inside scoop on how someone goes from having a fun idea, to creating a script and eventually a producing a feature film. It’s not easy. Kathy, Mark and Burk are obeying the quarantine mandate during the present health crisis. All of us recorded our parts from our own homes. Stay Safe!

THE ROOM, FREAKS and ALIENS: Science Fiction is a Room Full of Freaks
Kathy, Mark and Burk talk about a few films you might have missed, and what the concept of “escapism” means in a time of quarantine. We’re recommending some slightly under the radar films like one Kathy recommends called THE ROOM, but not the THE ROOM you think! Mark tells us about a fascinating film called FREAKS that seems to have some relevance to present times, and Burk revisits a couple of classic science fiction films and discusses what makes great sci-fi.
