As my paternity leave winds down, let's go back to one of my all-time favorite movies, The Lion in Winter. The boys hadn't seen it, so it was great to introduce a new classic. Stay tuned, new content drops on 1/31!

For this mini-episode of Cinemavino, we take a look at the first three episodes of The Legend of Vox Machina, now streaming on Amazon Prime. This animated series is based on the Youtube hit Critical Role, and is the result of a record-shattering Kickstarter campaign. Travis is a rabid fan, the rest of us are noobs of varying degrees. We all have strong opinions. SPOILERS ABOUND! Proceed with caution. Next up: We'll take a look at the last two episodes of The Book of Boba Fett. Then, we'll start our Valentine's Day series with As Good as It Gets. Enjoy!

Cinemavino - Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
play

09/05/21 • 13 min

Hello all, and welcome to another mini-episode of Cinemavino. For this very special recording, we're going to take a spoiler-free look at Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. We all enjoyed it, to varying degrees. As always, we have very strong opinions. For the vino, we're drinking summer whites. It's hotter than balls where we are, so red wine seems absolutely nuts to drink right now. To go along with this first podcast, we try The Eyerie Pinot Blanc. This is a refreshing, floral, chalky white wine that's easy on the palate, especially during the Dog Days of Summer. To learn a little more about this fine wine, click here. My written review will be coming soon to toddwoffordmovies.com, so keep your eyes peeled!

Cinemavino - Midsommar (2019)
play

10/21/20 • 33 min

A little backstory on the episode title: Before we officially started rolling, Travis, Tay, and I engaged in a heart-melting rendition of "I Don't Know Much (But I Know I Love You)." It got us thinking that our true calling may lie as a barbershop trio. Our names start with "T," so we decided to call ourselves Trío, but roll that 'r' big time. Personally, I'm a fan of "The T Sharps", but whatever. Anyway, for this week's Cinemavino, we screen a polarizing horror movie: Midsommar. When I saw it in theaters, I found it to be too off-putting to actually enjoy. It grew on me a little this time around, but I'm still not quite ready to recommend it.

Cinemavino - The Mandalorian (Series Recap) *spoilers*
play

01/02/20 • 54 min

(*WARNING: SPOILERS ABOUND*) Season 1 of The Mandalorian is in the books, and it’s been a resounding success for Disney+. Ratings and critical reception have been sky-high, and it looks like the series will be here to stay. For this episode of Cinemavino, Sean Jordan joins Trav and I as we discuss the finale of the Mandalorian, and where we think the show might go from this point. We also drink some great French wine, as my next Cinemavino book will pair classic movies with great bottles from France. Kick back, and enjoy another great episode of our podcast!

Cinemavino - Watershed Down (Cava)
play

10/07/19 • 41 min

For good behavior, my fifth grade class was awarded with a monthly movie. Somewhere in there, Watership Down made the cut. It’s a weird, whacked-out animated film that crawled into my nightmares for several weeks after. As a...ahem..children’s movie, this sum’bitch tackles some heavy subjects: Death, forced labor, extinction, deforestation, etc. Bunnies are ripping each other’s throats out, people! My wife and I have a son on the way, and he will NOT be watching this movie. At least ’till he’s thirty, anyway. So, yeah, the boys and I booze it up and watch Watership Down. Discussion follows. And probably therapy after that. We drink a little bubbly, rose, and Scotch for my upcoming ebook, which will pair wine (and a little whiskey) with movies.

Cinemavino - Major League (Gewürztraminer)
play

05/04/22 • 33 min

It's the fifth inning of our baseball series! This week, we tackle an 80s raunch comedy: Major League. It has an all-star cast, including many actors at the beginning of long careers. We'll pair this minor classic with some refreshing Gewürztraminer. (Pronounce it: Guh-VERZ-truh-meen-er. Or: Guh-VERZ-tram-un-er. To read my full review of the film, click here!

For this Movie Mailbag Monday, we hear the very first movies Tay and Trav ever saw in theaters. What made a big impression them when they were young and weird? Sean and I had such a good discussion about this, I had to ask them, as well. Next up, the arm wrestling movie to end them all!

Before we kick off our Summer of Chaos, enjoy this special release of our episode on The Fabelmans. Our Oscar gauntlet was so crowded, this one got nudged out of the rotation. It didn’t exactly fit with our next series, so I tucked it away for an occasion just like this. Enjoy!

Coming soon: A special bonus round of our Never Seen Series, and then the drawing for the Summer of Chaos!
