Season 2, Episode 32
Monday Motivation: Good People (And Countries) Know They Can Always Improve
On this week's Monday Motivation, I discuss how simple data about our country (averaging over one mass shooting a day and over three murders by police a day) exposes incredible failures in this country but our narrative, the American Dream etc., keeps us from admitting these failures or ever making real improvements.

Season 2, Episode 22
It's On Us
On this week's Monday Motivation, I talk about hate, bigotry, and discrimination and the role white people, especially white men, play in the creation of these horrible human actions. As a white man, I truly believe it's our on us. This is our problem. We perpetuate these injustices and it's on us to stop them.
No ads, no theme song even, just the message. It's that important.
As a reminder, this season, I'll be more regularly putting out Monday episodes. When I have a special episode worthy of releasing, it will still be those. When I don't, I'll be putting out these instead. I call them Monday Motivations and they're short episodes that are meant to start conversations.

Choose Your Struggle - Monday Motivation: Not All Use is Misuse
play

03/29/21 • 13 min

Season 2, Episode 24
Not All Use is Misuse
On this week's Monday Motivation, I talk about how conflating all use with misuse leads to people thinking they have a problem when they don't. We see this around drugs a lot as (mostly) parents think any use is misuse or addiction. But we also saw this with the Atlanta shooting where the gunman said he had a sex and porn addiction because his church taught him that very normal feelings of arousal were problematic. What do you think? Are you in circles where any use is conflated with misuse or addiction? I want to hear from you!

Isabel Wilkerson, Talib Kweli, and Caste
Season 2 Episode 10!
This episode is dedicated to my listeners in Germany who LOVE the Monday Motivation episodes.
On this week's Monday Motivation I discuss the book Caste by Isabel Wilkerson, the relationship between Caste and Racism as best I can relate it (I'm sure I didn't do nearly a good enough job) and tell the story of the time, after renting my condo to the rapper Talib Kweli, I was drawn into a fight as a bunch of rich white people clutched their pearls at his merely living in the building.
As a reminder, this season, I'll be more regularly putting out Monday episodes. When I have a special episode worthy of releasing, it will still be those.
