Botulinum toxin treatments in the upper face are a real 'bread and butter' treatment in most aesthetic clinicians' practice, but are you familiar enough with the anatomy to avoid side effects, whilst also maximising product efficiency?
In this week's Aesthetics Mastery Show, Dr Tim takes us on an anatomical tour of the key muscles injected for upper-third Botox treatments, including the frontalis, corrugator, depressor supercilii, procerus, and orbicularis oculi.
He shares why you should avoid paint-by-number injection techniques; the anatomy you need to know in order to avoid eyelid ptoses; how to get procerus toxin doses right; key tips if you struggle to locate muscles in the first place; and the answer to the crucial question of whether you can treat the frontalis without also injecting the corrugator.
Dr Tim even shares a little-known tip to improve rhinoplasty results and longevity...using Botox.

Dr Tim gets asked all the time "How many vials of hyaluronidase do I actually need for my emergency kit, to reverse a vascular occlusion safely?" so we've dedicated this Aesthetics Mastery Show to answering that question once and for all.
We dig into the science behind hyaluronidase reversals; why different clinicians have competing views on the number of vials you need; how many it took Tim to reverse his own lip occlusion; how to know when you've used enough; and how you can access emergency stock in UK (except Scotland) if you're not a doctor or dentist.

Vascular occlusion is every clinician's worst nightmare. But are you familiar with the differences between arterial and venous occlusion?
In this week's Aesthetics Mastery Show, Dr Tim dives into how to avoid, diagnose and treat venous occlusion, including discussing the probability that dermal filler could cause a pulmonary embolism, or even blindness due to a venous thrombosis.
Let us know in the comments in you've ever experienced a venous occlusion from dermal filler.

In this week's episode of the Aesthetics Mastery Show we continue our look at the riskiest areas of the face to inject, this time diving into the 5 arteries that run parallel to where your needle or cannula goes, thus increasing the likelihood and severity of vascular occlusion.
Dr Tim examines arteries such as the superior and inferior labial arteries, near lip injections, and the dorsal nasal artery, near non-surgical rhinoplasty injections, and explains why they are so dangerous and what you can do to avoid hitting them.
You can grab a very helpful free facial vessel map of the 5 extra risky areas here: https://drtimpearce.com/resources/the-13-injection-areas-that-carry-extra-risks-cheat-sheet/
As discussed in today's show, in 2019 I decided to put to bed the perennial debate about whether aspirating is really necessary. I tested aspiration times across 8 different types of filler, including Juvederm and Revolax, using 4 different needles/cannula...and best of all, I used my own arm! We also tackle the topic on everyone’s lips at the moment - how is Borris? The UK’s Prime Minister, Borris Johnson, was admitted to intensive care on Tuesday night, and we all wish him a speedy recovery. The questions still remain, though: were we lied to about his condition; was he following social distancing guidelines strictly enough, and is he a bad patient? We go in!
