KABOOM! Yes, this explosive episode made our heads collectively go BOOM! Kelly Frye's Plastique may have met an abrupt end, but she will be remembered! She is only the first in what is inevitably a long line of subjects General Eiling is seeking out to "make the world a safer place." But whatever his means, he'll have to find a way without Wells because our favorite, mysterious scientist made it absolutely clear that he would have no part in Eiling's games.Read more...

What a great crossover event between Flash and Arrow!
To celebrate, we did a crossover PODCAST event! This week, it's CCU and Arrow Squad, Together Again For The First Time Since The Last Time! Join us for the LONGEST podcast in CCU History, as two teams of hosts dissect two hours worth of two teams of superheroes! Not only did Legends of Today and Legends of Yesterday set up Legends of Tomorrow for the January premiere, but it moved Flash and Arrow toward their mid-season finales, and it set up a nice bit of mystery surrounding a certain Speed Enhancing Drug that you just KNOW is going to come into play soon! Plus, this week, we got the introduction to one of DC's biggest villains, Vandal Savage! And now, here to tell you more about that, is Joe "Joey Shakespeare" Zettelmaier: Vandalous
And so the two-parter has happened! Unlike our last few, this was less of two semi-connected tales and a true long story broken up over two days. We've seen more heroes onscreen than in anything short of animation. But what are heroes without a great villain, and man, did we get a great one. Read more...

What's better than an episode of The Flash with one villain? Try TWO villains! Two very distinct stories are going on in the seventh episode of The Flash entitled "Power Outage" and as Barry and Wells try to juggle the attack from without by Blackout, Iris, Joe and Eddie must handle the attack from within by The Clock King. The Shadow was pretty disappointed by the use of this villain in the context of this episode, based on the brilliant storyline we got from Arrow's season 2 episode "Time of Death", but there was more to make this story enjoyable.
There were a lot of Harrison Wells reveals in this episode and fans (and hosts) are pretty evenly divided over who Wells is in the broader Flash universe. Is he from the future, or can he only see into the future? Did he create The Flash, or is he just eager to take credit? And what theory of time-travel is the show conforming to? We address all of these questions, but probably don't provide concrete answers because every time we think we know more, the showrunners throw something else at us! Keeps us coming back, right? CCU 10 – S1E1 – Zero to Hero

In this first transmission of season 1 of The Flash, Miss Ice and The Shadow waste no time in getting down to business. Almost immediately, several questions and Easter eggs are laid down for the future of this show. Barry's mother was murdered when he was 11 and his father was arrested immediately and convicted for her murder. Now in Iron Heights for 14 years, Barry is still determined to uncover the truth, being the only one who believes in his father's innocence. He is adamant that there was someone else in the living room with him and his father that fateful morning, a ball of light.
Or...were there two balls of light? The Shadow and Miss Ice are pretty certain they see two distinct blurs, one yellow and one red, very reminiscent of Flashpoint Paradox. And yet, Barry tells the gang at S.T.A.R. Labs that he saw a man inside the light (singular man). The Shadow lays down a great theory that we might wait the whole season, if not multiple seasons, to uncover in its entirety. What is your theory? Who are the two balls of light and why did their presence end with the death of Nora Allen? Read more...

CCU 39 – S1E21 – Grodd Lives

All Grodd Things Grodd Lives! Grodd. Grodd. GroddGroddGroddGroddGroddGrodd. This was my thought process while watching Ep. 21 today. I've made no effort to hide the fact that Gorilla Grodd, or just Grodd to his pals, is my favorite Flash villain. Let's explore why, shall we?
I'm inclined to say that, with the possible exception of Batman, no one has a better rogues gallery than The Flash. Tech-magicians from the future, a team of villains w/ powers and names so silly they should be laughingstocks (but aren't), even an extra-dimensional despot w/ delusions of Fairy Tale-dom. But then there's Grodd. His origins in the comics (a member of a race of super-apes hidden by their advanced technology deep in Africa) is clearly different then what we've seen on the show, but that's OK. They're making it their own, and keeping true to the universe they've created. Read more...
