01/14/06 • -1 min
Here we are at the final episode of day one. What a great day! The Civil War may have taken place over 140 years ago, but with every shovel load of dirt we peel back those years. So sit back and enjoy the dig, but before you do check that dirt pile over there. I think I saw a minie ball in it!

1. A durable cut-pile fabric, usually made of cotton, with vertical ribs.

Which one of the above definitions correctly defines day two at Diggin' in Virginia IV? If you picked number three, you're on the right road! We have finally reached the old corduroy road bed at about 4 feet down, give or take a foot or two. On this beautiful day many remnants of the Civil War would be unearthed. A number of relics were found sitting directly under that road bed. If only that ole' corduroy could talk!

Diggin' in Virginia IV - Day 2, Part 2
In this episode, we finish out day 2 with a bang! By this time we have made it down to the grayish black clay that lies under the old corduroy road. Any Civil War relics coming out of this dirt have a pretty decent chance of being in great condition. You may hear a chainsaw in the background. That was the sound of the local museum cutting a cross section of the wooden road to rebuild in their Civil War display. There was some serious history preservation taking place at this dig. The fun didn't stop when the sun when down either. A bunch of treasure hunters exchanging hunt stories and rolling dice to divide the spoils of the day's relic hunt. You gotta love it!
