Logan Stankoven scored twice in the second period as the Hurricanes raced out to a 3-0 lead en route to a 4-1 win over the Devils. Carolina takes Game 1 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with Game 2 set for Tuesday in Raleigh. Carolina won the special teams battle, scoring once on the power play but also shutting the Devils down when New Jersey had the man advantage. The Canes also saw strong performances up and down the lineup during a physical game. Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis combined for 9 hits. Andrei Svechnikov played a very heavy game and Eric Robinson and William Carrier combined for 13 hits in the game. Jalen Chatfield opened the scoring less than 2 1/2 minutes into the game. Stankoven scored about 6 1/2 minutes apart in the 2nd. Svechnikov scored into an empty net late in the 3rd. Frederik Andersen made 23 saves and was very steady throughout.

Sebastian Aho's 8th career hat trick couldn't get a win in Washington as the Caps survive in shootout, 7-6. Aho's third of the game, with Carolina's net empty, sent the game into overtime. Seth Jarvis scored his 27th of the season on the power play. It was the sixth straight game with a goal for Jarvis. Jaccob Slavin and Brady Skjei each scored as well. Skjei doing so in his 600th career NHL game. Carolina's normally reliable penalty kill allowed three Washington power play goals.

Seth Jarvis ran his goal streak to 5 straight games with an overtime game-winner to give the Canes a 3-2 win over Philadelphia. Jarvis has 6 goals in the streak and 4 of them were game-winners. Frederik Andersen has won all five of his starts since returning to the lineup. He's allowed just 7 goals in those starts, with 1 shutout and a .947 save percentage. Jordan Martinook and Jalen Chatfield also scored for the Hurricanes who have now won 5 straight games. Carolina's magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 9. The win pulls Carolina within 2 points of the Rangers in the Metro. Brady Skjei had 2 assists. Martin Necas scored a power play goal with 1.1 seconds left in the first period that probably ended the competitive portion of the game. It was Necas 13th goal in 26 games since returning from injury.

Dmitry Orlov scored twice and assisted on two other goals as the Hurricanes bombed the Senators in Ottawa, 7-2. Orlov scored the game's first goal on a 1st-period breakaway, then added his 2nd goal of the game to blow open the game early in the 3rd to make it 5-2. Former Capitals teammate and BFF Evgeny Kuznetsov also scored, as did Seth Jarvis, Jalen Chatfield, Jake Guentzel, and Brendan Lemieux. Sebastian Aho had 3 assists. Freddie Andersen made 30 saves for his 4th straight win since returning to action.

After a dominant defensive performance in the first period, the Carolina Hurricanes were undone by a Tampa Bay Lightning power play explosion in an 8-2 loss at PNC Arena. Tampa hit the Canes with power play goals three times in a 4:20 span of the 2nd period that saw Carolina's 1-0 lead dissolve into a 2-goal defecit before 6 minutes were gone in the frame. The Hurricanes would pull one back on a Michael Bunting power play marker late in the period, but Tampa scored 5 unanswered in the 3rd period as they ran away and hid from the Hurricanes. Carolina will close out a 5-game home stand on Sunday at 5:00 against the Blue Jackets
