The Canadiens signed forward Emil Heineman to a three-year, entry-level contract. Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield were named co-winners of the Molson Cup for March.

The Canadiens have suffered from a serious lack of leadership this season. The four players who guided the team through the 2021-22 campaign all the way to the Stanley Cup Final have been missing.

• Roster news - Brendan Gallagher and Sami Niku are one week into the COVID protocol. Ducharme said that they will not play on Tuesday in Pittsburgh. The will need time for conditioning. Ducharme: Among injured players, Joel Armia and Jeff Petry are closest to returning. Carey Price skated on his own in full gear this week. Forward Laurent Dauphin and defenseman Kale Clague made their Canadiens debuts against Tampa. Defenceman Mattias Norlinder was loaned to the Laval Rocket and defenceman Corey Schueneman was recalled from the Laval Rocket. Canadiens recalled Jesse Ylonen from the Laval Rocket; he played his first NHL game of the season on Thursday.
• Habs prospect report - Updates on the Laval Rocket. Montreal Canadiens and forward Arsen Khisamutdinov have mutually agreed to terminate his contract. The 23-year-old was placed on waivers. • Hockey news and notes - Jim Rutherford was hired as the president of hockey operations and interim GM of the Vancouver Canucks. Bruce Boudreau picked up first three wins. Flyers fire Alain Vigneault and Michel Therrien. Mike Yeo takes over for the interim. Arizona Coyotes pay deliquent tax bills of $1.3M after city threatened lockout. Gary Bettman says that there are no issues and that the Coyotes are not leaving Arizona. Bettman: no franchises considering relocation and no new expansion plans. Bettman: NHL participation in 2022 Winter Olympics will be a players decision. NHL team values jump 32 percent in recent Forbes ranking.

Segment 2: BIG Topic - Cleaning House II

• The Canadiens new Executive Vice-President Jeff Gorton has a lot on his plate. Much of the conversation on social media has zeroed in on the selection of a new General Manager. But Gorton will also be involved in evaluating the coaching staff, improving player development, building out the analytics department and addressing issues with roster construction. The latter will be the focus of the discussion today with Michael Spinella. We each will present our top five list of players to make available at the trade deadline.

• Roster news - Canadiens injury update. The Canadiens filed a LTI letter regarding Shea Weber with the NHL on Wednesday. Canadiens claimed forward Adam Brooks off waivers from Toronto. Canadiens assigned Kaiden Guhle to Prince Albert Raiders and Cayden Primeau to Laval Rocket as the final two cuts from training camp to complete their 23-man roster. Canadiens sent forward Ryan Poehling to the Laval Rocket. Canadiens signed Nick Suzuki to a 8-year contract extension, $7.875M AAV.
• Habs prospect report - Laval Rocket played their first regular season game on Friday.

• The Laval Rocket sign Kevin Lynch to a one-year, one-way AHL contract for the 2020-21 season. Lynch appeared in 54 games for the Rocket last season.
• They Said What? - Darren Dreger said Montreal could be a possible destination for Taylor Hall. Is it actually possible the Canadiens net the biggest fish of 2020 Free Agency? Jesperi Kotkaniemi revisits the 2018 NHL Draft.
• Corey Pronman of The Athletic released his organizational rankings, ranking the young players of each NHL team. The Canadiens finished ninth in his ranking.
• Nick Bjugstad traded from Pittsburgh to Minnesota in exchange for a conditional pick.
• A report indicated Robin Lehner signed a contract extension with Vegas, but Lehner denied.
• NHL Critical dates calendar update. The NHL Draft has been moved up to October 6th and 7th, while Free Agency will commence on the 9th. What happens after the Draft and Free Agency? When will the 2020-21 season start?

Segment 2: Marc Bergevin is Shopping

• Elliotte Friedman reported that it could be Phillip Danault who might be traded by the Canadiens, instead of Max Domi who has been the source of speculation for the past few weeks. Friedman noted that he's heard Danault's name out there and the Habs are at least "testing the market" for him. Rick and Joe discuss this new development for the Montreal Canadiens.
