Angela Lansbury Was Not That Bad
Can You Hear Me?
02/03/18 • 51 min
Once again KaJay Randill joins Heavy and Gustav to answer emails and listen to Gus claim Angela Lansbury was something in her day. There is still no sign of Ty so KaJay Randill pulled our bacon out of the fire and kept Heavy and Gus from talking bonsai trees for an hour. They try to be funny and ask non-sports Gus about his favorite sports documentaries.
Gustav recounts the boys at It's Just Banter's recent guest episode with Throatzilla, noted celebrity fellatio expert. Then they open up the mail bag and answer ancient emails from four months ago. Topical is never and adjective to describe Can You Hear Me. Long time contributor and master of the flashlight and the Voltron formation, Cody emails with a solid Halloween themed series of questions about costumes and candies and more. Tell delves into the world of pumpkin chunkin in his email. A new emailer tells us how science did the rest.
The boys discuss the best Don based on a series of tweets that AWOL Ty is a part of including Don Cornelius, Don Adams and Don Knotts.
Gus just can't help himself and he makes a stand on the relative hotness of Angela Lansbury in her youthful starlet days and then he makes a very dad joke.
Heavy and Gus recount one of the roughest concerts they ever went to, which happened to be a Willie Nelson concert in Lubbock, TX in 1994 (although it could have been fall of 1993 and Gus just can't quite pin it down.).
Let us know who you think the best Don is, or tell us about your crappy costumes of your childhood, or send us you sexy adult costume ideas or your favorite Halloween candy to [email protected]

Dirt Track
Can You Hear Me?
08/17/17 • 48 min
Join the guys for a special guest , a field report from the dirt track and much much more. Since Ty is too busy with "paperwork", long time friend of the show Ray Ranfill was kind enough to join us.
Straight out of the gate, Gustav takes a stand against Grandy's and recalls a special moment that he and Heavy shared many moons ago at a 903 area code Grandy's. Then Gustav tries to establish some street cred with a story about how he frequents a local taqueria. And while he's all hopped up on food talk, he rails against mixing corn into other dishes.
But the real focus of the show is the tale of Gus and Jay going to the Grayson County Speedway with Matt and St. Ginsburg. Gustav was busy taking notes and asking long time racing enthusiast Jay questi0ns. It was a fun night and Matt even won money! But going back to food, Gus offers hot sports opinions about "the walking taco"
Once again Gus brainstorms about a Greyhound bus trip and dreams of the possibilities for the show. It will probably never happen, but if it does, then you will hear all about it. Then Gus drifts into talk about FarmAid 92 and how he hopes to do an entire Farm Aid episode some time in the future.
So send us your emails about bus trips, Cutlass Supremes or your fun at dirt tracks or drag races to [email protected]

Mexican Internet
Can You Hear Me?
08/31/17 • 60 min
Once again Ray Ranfill joins Heavy and Gus to talk old movies, answer emails and debate the merits of ordering things off of the Mexican Internet. Ty is busy doing "paperwork" once again, or possibly doing research for his new side project with Megan from Megan's Movie Podcast where they analyze each and every line from Tootsie.
Gustav gets the ball rolling with a field report from a pawn shop and offers up a little show and tell for the boys. He also discusses the wide open nature of black powder pistols for those citizens who may not be able to legally purchase a cartridge firearm.
There is some highbrow grandstanding as Gustav brags about reading fancy books such as William Faulkner's Sound and the Fury, but Heavy tries to keep him in check.
Jay responds to his own email about the fascinating world of Sun Truthers which Gus and Heavy had never even heard of before.
There is some talk about the American institute of trial by jury, Bitcoin and HBO's classic series The Wire.
An email from KJ about hangovers leads the three to ask where you would you rather order IV solution from the Canadian Internet of the Mexican Internet and you really can't pass that up for an episode name at that point.
Ray talks about how awesome he is at fantasy sports betting and the like.
Fake Bailey Jay takes the boys to task about some hot sports opinions about Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, which leads to a very disappointing conversation with Heavy and Jay about their opinions about the film. But further discussion about Tarrantino's work is more positive.
The movie talk leads Ray to ask about regretting showing your kids certain movies. Gus tells about how he had his kids watch the unedited Blaxploitation classic "Cotton Comes to Harlem" and how he forgot a few jubblies that may have been left out of the edited version. He also talks about the fun action comedy "True Lies"
So send us your emails about movies, single shot shotguns or jury selection to [email protected]

America’s Favorite
Can You Hear Me?
07/27/17 • 50 min
Ty and Gustav are back with a myriad of topics and an unfortunate claim from someone that they are America's Favorite. Things get heated early on as Gustav must defend the comments he made about climate change back during the Professor Brad guest appearance.
Things settle down for a little bit of moccasin talk. Gus delivers an update on a prominent moccasin manufacturer's omission of classic style and then espouses the best traditional moccasin for walking around on rocks.
Alt-Country performer Nikki Lane has been getting some airplay so that reminds Ty and Gus of the time that she met Heavy Longmire at the Old 97's County Fair.
The boys then turn to talk about scorpions and they wonder about their decline in the 903 compared to when they were youngsters back in the seventies and eighties. Scorpion talk naturally leads to a discussion about 1981's "The Clash of the Titans" and some thrilling moments as they look up names of actresses on their phones.
Willie Nelson and Family's music festival at Starplex is then discussed as well as the stances of lawn or seats.
Gus recounts the one testical bear trap story for anyone who may have missed it the first time he told it.
Ty discusses his first bout with acid reflux and how Copenhagen and cheap beer subsequently affected it.
John Prine was just discovered by Ty so they talk about that even though Gus got Heavy listening to him back in high school.
And Gus updates us with a surge in listeners in Virginia and everyone agrees that Virginia is for Lovers.
So send us your emails about America's Favorite, the time you saw Willie Nelson or what you think happened to the scorpions to [email protected]

Touch of Evil
Can You Hear Me?
07/20/17 • 60 min
Ty and Gustav are back for an episode where they answer listener emails and talk about old movies like Rear Window and Touch of Evil. Sorry to sadden anyone, but once again, this is an episode without the one and only Heavy Longmire. Maybe in the future, he will return to the fold.
Gus gets the ball rolling with a story of premature aging and discusses how people approach him for help in stores. The guys then talk about Heavy's propensity to close talk and discuss a recent report about an unbelievably high number of heterosexual men reporting to have cuddled other men in a non-sexual way.
Gus reads a couple of emails from Pretty Ranch Wife as she works through the back catalog of listeners. She addresses recent roadkill adventures out in West Texas which leads Gus to tell the story of a classmate's run in with a buzzard back in the eighties and how it ruined the dress of the kid's mom.
Once again Ty lobbies for an appearance on Megan's Movie Podcast. In lieu of a appearance on a far more successful podcast, Ty and Gus head down the film path and discuss gay characters in Westerns like Tombstone and There Was a Crooked Man. That somehow leads them to Charles Nelson Reilly (once again). They then talk about how much they love Alfred Hitchcock movies like Rope, Rear Window, Vertigo, and The Trouble with Harry. Not surprisingly, Ty discusses Grace Kelly and Gus has some thin shaming comments to make.
Ultimately they turn to the subject of remakes which they have mixed feelings about and that leads to a brief discussion of film noir and they both geek out about the classic Orson Wells film "Touch of Evil"
So send us your emails about film noir, roadkill, Chuck Berry or which tv shows you wish Charles Nelson Reilly had been a guest star on to [email protected]

Professor Brad – Mexico’s George Washington
Can You Hear Me?
06/22/17 • 67 min
Have you ever heard of Mexico's George Washington? Listen to this first part of a two part special series where Gustav sits down with everyone's favorite historian, Professor Brad and maybe you will figure out what he means. Sadly Ty and Heavy seem to have abandoned the podcast, so Gustav begged Brad to join him for what was initially going to be an hour of scholarly talk. But lucky for the listener, the scholarly mumbo jumbo is augmented by the meandering and confusing rabbit trails that you have come to expect from Gustav and his enabler Brad.
Brad starts the ball rolling with a tale of his Uncle Doobie and a hitchhiker, which fits nicely with the recent hitchhiking episode Ty and Gus did a few weeks ago. Gustav dabbles with psychoanalyzing Brad's bad tooth pick up line, but abandons that thread for several questions that loyal listeners and fans of Brad sent in via Twitter:
Cody asks about breakfast soup
Aaron inquires about Texas secession boundaries
Ginsburg asks about other books Brad would want to write
Trey wants to know who the villains of World War I were
Tell wonders if Brad is just luring him to buy his book by telling him he is descended from great men of New Spain
As you can imagine, these questions lead Gus and Brad down a myriad of dead ends, rabbit holes and erroneous statements. Somewhere along the way Brad talks about a failed comic book idea, Gustav struggles for the name of space flight pioneer Wernher von Braun, Brad teaches us that Augustine de Iturbide was Mexico's George Washington and all other kinds of useless information.
So send us your emails about changing historic perspectives, Werner von Braun, or breakfast soup to [email protected]
Be sure to listen to listen to Gustav’s guest appearance on Megan’s Movie Podcast on the Blowout Podcast Network where he and Megan talk about Tombstone.
And listen to Brad each week on his own podcast Below the Belt

Short Version of David Koresh
Can You Hear Me?
06/15/17 • 66 min
Once again Ty and Gustav are without Heavy, so they discuss raising kids, answer emails and how one of them looked like David Koresh in 1993. We apologize for Heavy's absence, but just imagine how joyful his homecoming will be!
Being parents, Ty and Gus find themselves having to deal with other parents. Gus asks what do you do if you like the fellow parent, but don't like their kid. That leads to a discussion about the over-videoing parents today, which prompts Barbershop talk once again which somehow leads to the subject of Green Stamps, which everyone collected and redeemed back in the 60's and 70's.
The guys return to the earlier topic of college jobs and Ty remembers how he worked laying water pipe (not a euphemism) one summer with our high school chemistry teacher.
An email from good dude and long time listener Valley Butcher brings about David Koresh and Branch Davidian talk. Naturally what starts off as a serious discussion about a tragedy of is subverted by a side story about a gravy drinking contest and how one of them looked like a short version of David Koresh during the stand-off.
Gustav climbs on his libertarian soapbox for a bit to talk about the Davidians, the MOVE debacle in Philadelphia, and the Ruby Ridge fiasco. But that only lasts for a short bit before Ty distracts him with hot dog talk.
They regain focus and talk about other historic moments in their youth like the Challenger, the U.S. Marine base bombing in Beirut and the O.J. Simpson chase.
Friend of the show Conner sends a thought provoking email about the future of masculinity, which brings them back on track and they circle back to the raising of kids and the seeming devaluation of masculinity in our society at the moment.
So send us your emails about raising kids, what you can put on a hot dog or any cult leaders you used to look like to [email protected]
Be sure to listen to listen to Gustav’s guest appearance on Megan’s Movie Podcast on the Blowout Podcast Network where he and Megan talk about Tombstone.
