A deeper dive into academic trauma
01/21/22 • 37 min
Hola mi gente, I hope you are doing well this week! Now I am starting off this episode with a little rant regarding my financial life that has had some damage recently due to unexpected university bills. It can be so challenging being first-gen and trying to find different financial sources to fund our degrees such as loans, grants, scholarships etc. but that doesn't mean we can't make it happen. I know we can. <3 Furthermore, I really want to take the time to speak about the first time I genuinely experienced academic trauma and how the flashbacks can still effect my motivation. However, what really makes the difference in overcoming the feeling is finding and interacting with your genuine support group that want to see you succeed.

Mi mamá always said that education is the key (Interview w/ Evelyn)
Hola mi gente, we hope you are doing well this week! In this episode I had the absolute honor in interviewing our giveaway winner from my virtual keynote at CSU Channel Islands, Evelyn Gabriel. Our resilient and inspiring first-gen mujer is quite the expert in accounting and she was recently admitted into her Masters in Business Administration. Evelyn is truly the representation that we need and I myself was blown away hearing how she continued to pursue her academic dreams while being a mother and proud daughter of immigrants.

Our gente deserve an education and accessible resources.
Hola mi gente, I hope you are doing well this week! I definitely felt like I had a lot to share regarding the unique challenges that are community members face with having little to no resources to certain milestones that are suppose to make "the american" dream happen. I am fully aware that I don't have the answers to everything, but what I do know is that we and future generations deserve more. Whatever that may mean for you, just remember you are paving the way. <3
