22. The Dark Magic Murders: The Chilling Case of Mona Fandey
This case revolves around the gruesome 1993 murder of Mazlan Idris, a Malaysian politician, in Johor. He was killed by a couple, Mona Fandey and her husband Affendi, who practiced black magic. Mazlan sought Mona's help to enhance his political career, but instead, they murdered and dismembered him in a ritualistic killing. After his disappearance, police investigations uncovered his remains under a concrete slab at a house in Labis. The couple, along with their assistant Juraimi, confessed to the crime, claiming they consumed some of Mazlan's body parts as part of a black magic ritual.
Mona, a former singer turned witchcraft practitioner, had previously deceived many by claiming to possess powerful magical objects. She and her husband had killed several others, possibly up to 30, but only a few bodies were recovered. Despite her crimes, Mona remained unrepentant, even smiling for the cameras during her trial. In 2001, Mona, Affendi, and Juraimi were executed by hanging. The case shocked Malaysia, and years later, a movie was made about it, highlighting the eerie nature of Mona's belief in her "magical" powers.

Her mother and brother kept her hidden, spreading rumors of her elopement. Blanche was eventually discovered in a horrific state of starvation and neglect after an anonymous tip to the police. Although her mother died shortly after her arrest, her brother Marcel was acquitted despite evidence of his complicity.
