We also explore how a censorship resistant, decentralised, trustless store of value can help eliminate corruption when it comes to government expenditure. Bitcoin Gold uses the Equihash PoW algorithm, which cannot be solved using ASICs that have been designed for Bitcoin. This ensures that Bitcoin Gold is not in competition with Bitcoin over limited resources. Instead, Bitcoin Gold will have an entirely different mining infrastructure, consisting of general purpose computer hardware (GPUs). Bitcoin Gold is an interesting idea to improve the decentralisation of mining. If this concept is successful we may see this one day implemented in Bitcoin core.
