When the thoughts in our head, and the the emotions in our bodies are less than optimal, we fail to thrive.
Our Guest for this episode is a man who I consider to be the "Leonardo da Vinci of Quality Movement" and his "Flow Motion Model" is the equivalent of da Vinci's Sistine Chapel. Gary observed loading pressures in feet whilst fitting ski boots for avid skiers on the slopes. His powers of observation and curiosity were so intense that he figured out some pretty "game changing" concepts for how we move through space. Since discovering his work, my personal approach to rehabilitation has completely changed and the purity of his model of motion is pure perfection in my eyes. Perhaps I am biased, but when you spend 5 days studying a foot and still walk away totally enthused by this one part of our anatomy, then clearly the teaching and the method are revolutionary.
We discuss Gary's own injury history, how he created his model of motion and how it relates to back pain. Including ; the relevance of foot pressures, why core work is not always useful, the futility of some standard rehabilitation protocols. We discuss the role of movement efficiency for performance, but also for injury avoidance.
Some Key Quotes -
"If we are not aware of the things we can't do, we are only aware of the things we can do" = Consider Anatomy in Motion a Pattern Interruption for the Brain
" You only have two legs" - why not load each one evenly ?
"More access to Mobility creates Stability"
Gary’s tools:
- Movement - Anatomy in Motion - creating new opportunities for skeletal re-organisation, learning new ways of moving gently, quietly and with curiosity to open and close joint spaces evenly throughout the spine.

It focusses almost entirely on the physical body, neglecting the fact that we are all both thinkers and feelers. When the thoughts in our head, and the emotions in our bodies are less than optimal, we fail to thrive.
Dr. Scott Bertrand, a retired chiropractor, shares his journey of developing the All Core 360, a revolutionary rehab unit, born out of his own back pain experiences. His frustration with ineffective rehab methods led him to create a device that challenges the core's survival mechanism through reflexive, subconscious training. By tilting and rotating, the All Core engages muscles dynamically, promoting balance and correcting imbalances, leading to improved posture and reduced pain. Customizable to individual needs, it's used both in rehab and athletic performance training, proving to be a game-changer in both arenas.
Favourite Quotes -
- "The body absolutely knows how to heal itself... What a good physician does is they take that innate wisdom and then do everything you can to foster that, encourage it, help it along the path that it's doing anyway."

- Evaluate Posture and Daily Habits: Dr. Bertrand emphasizes the importance of assessing one's posture and daily habits. Often, imbalances in these areas contribute to back pain. Individuals should be mindful of how they sit, stand, sleep, and move throughout the day.
- Seek Balance: Achieving balance in all aspects of life is crucial for managing back pain. This includes not only physical balance but also balancing activities, habits, and movement patterns.

It focusses almost entirely on the physical body, neglecting the fact that we are all both thinkers and feelers. When the thoughts in our head, and the emotions in our bodies are less than optimal, we fail to thrive.
In this episode, Meera shares her transformative journey of overcoming chronic back pain through mental and emotional strategies, highlighting the impact on physical health. She discusses her struggle since a fall at 12, leading to a life-changing experience that altered her perception of pain. She explores Ascension and surrender as paths to living harmoniously with pain, emphasizing its role in personal growth.
Meera's Top tips -
1. Put less effort into movement: This reduces effort and can lead to more flexibility and relaxation.
2. Observe the body without agenda: By closing your eyes and purely observing your body sensations without judgment or a healing agenda, you can initiate healing. This practice can soothe pain and highlight areas of resistance.
3. Recognize the pain story: Noticing the thoughts surrounding your pain helps in becoming more aware of the dialogue about your pain. By becoming conscious of these thoughts, the suffering, which is an unconscious process, begins to diminish.
