Romans 5:6 – 11; 2 Corinthians 5:16 – 21 For Further Study Do you feel like we (as a church, as followers of Jesus) understand sin in a proper perspective? Why or why not? Have you ever encountered someone who felt that their sin was too great to be forgiven? Have you ever felt this way? What is the bible’s answer to this? Do some people have trouble admitting they are broken and sinful (separated from God)? How do we engage well with them? Do you ever find yourself being judgmental of people you perceive as “more sinful” than you? What can we do to resist this and appropriately connect with them? Discuss healthy ways to find the balance between grace, forgiveness, repentance, righteous living and relationship with Jesus.

Luke 1:57-79 For Further Study Compare Zechariah’s response to Gabriel’s visit with Mary’s response. (1:34 -38) Compare Zechariah’s song with Mary’s song. Are there similarities? Consider the words “redeem,” “saved” or “salvation” and “rescue.” Do you think these words mean the same thing or are there some differences? Why is it significant for Zechariah’s song to mention David, Abraham, OT prophets and God’s covenant with Israel (His people)? What does the song indicate will be John’s role in the coming of the Messiah? What impact does Zechariah’s song have on us today as followers of Jesus?
