Buffy the Gilmore Slayer: A Buffy and Gilmore Girls Podcast

Bryan & Stacey

The one and only Gilmore Girls AND Buffy the Vampire Slayer podcast brought to you by comedians/real life couple Bryan Morris & Stacey Kulow. Bryan grew up obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Stacey is a huge Gilmore Girls fan, but neither of them have ever seen the other's favorite show. Together they watch their way through both excellent 7-season series, discussing an episode from each show every week, in an attempt to figure out which show is better. Bryan & Stacey are New York-based writer/performers, both born and raised in the Midwest. They met doing improv in Madison, Wisconsin and have been together for over a decade.

In this special episode, we recap our general thoughts on Season 2 of both shows. We count down our top 5 moments, discuss our least favorite moments, reveal our favorite episodes, share some predictions, AND decide which show we thought was better overall. Bryan's apparently been harboring hate for a beloved Gilmore Girl episode. Stacey threatens to stop watching if Spike doesn't come back. But really mostly a lot of praise for both seasons, because they were both fantastic. We're having a blast, and we're so happy you've come on this journey with us!

He's Back, But She Can't Have Him

Buffy S2 E22: "Becoming (Part 2)"/Gilmore Girls S2 E22: "I Can't Get Started"
This one's a little long, guys - big season finales with some big reveals and some fantastic acting from our leading ladies. Buffy, Lorelai and Rory must all decide between with being with the men they love and sacrificing their wants for the greater good, or in Rory's case settling for Dean. Get ready for some controversial opinions on Xander's betrayal AND "Oy, with the poodles already!" Neither of us totally get or like the whole Whistler/Rune thing. Bryan somehow saw a bunch of Gilmore Girls kissing scenes that Stacey totally missed. Plus, a surprise visit from our cat, Kurt!

New York + Stars Hollow = Hot Dogs?

Buffy the Gilmore Slayer: A Buffy and Gilmore Girls Podcast

play

04/13/21 • 65 min

Gilmore Girls S2 E21: "Lorelai's Graduation Day"/Buffy S2 E21: "Becoming (Part 1)"
Rune is back! But he's switched shows? Both episodes take a trip to NYC, so Bryan and Stacey take this opportunity to couplesplain the city to ya. While a brief call from Jess convinces Rory to skip a momentous occasion to go to New York, a cryptic conversation with a stranger convinces Angel to skip his rat lunch to go to LA. We remember a time when it was possible for no one in a group of 4 to be carrying a camera. Though we admire his strong instincts for what to do with boob blood, David Boreanaz's Irish accent is uh... bad! And who knew Seth MacFarlane hated rich people so much?
Bryan's sketch show (also featuring a little bit of Stacey) will be live on Squirrel Comedy Theatre's Twitch channel and on YouTube at 9:30pm EST on Thursday 4/15/21.

Gone Fishing

Buffy the Gilmore Slayer: A Buffy and Gilmore Girls Podcast

play

04/06/21 • 58 min

Buffy S2 E20: "Go Fish"/Gilmore Girls S2 E20: "Help Wanted"
Apparently it's okay to turn high school boys into fishy mutant murder creatures IF done in the name of school spirit. And if Russia's best scientists couldn't figure it out, surely a school nurse and a swim coach can handle the job. Turns out Angel hates fish, and Bryan knows a lot about loose skin. Meanwhile Luke has gone fishing (hopefully unrelated) to escape the aftermath of Jess's exodus, for which Rory is doing damage control. Dean takes this shockingly well. Lane discovers drums. Richard discovers Office Max, and Stacey discovers herself in a whole poopy mess.
As mentioned at the top of the episode, here's the stunt car driver sketch we made for Sketch Cram.

Consequential Teacher Crushes

play

Gilmore Girls S2 E19: "Teach Me Tonight"/Buffy S2 E19: "I Only Have Eyes for You"
Some high school boys get a little too hot for teacher this week, and honestly, it gets pretty dangerous for everybody. Both high school principals are fed up, and let's just say books are coming out when they shouldn't be. Turns out Bryan is way more of a Jess than Stacey even realized, and Rory's excessive dessert consumption has really gotten her into trouble this time. Surprise surprise, something is haunting Sunnydale High School, and Giles is pretty bummed that it's not his dead girlfriend. But don't worry; it all culminates in a beautiful, yet confusing ghost play.

Worried Little Boys

Buffy S2 E18: "Killed by Death"/Gilmore Girls S2 E18: "Back in the Saddle Again"
A German Freddy Krueger is on the loose at Sunnydale's hospital. Luckily Buffy caught the town flu and is able to save the day. Joyce is very not concerned with Buffy's oddly close relationship with her school librarian. And apparently Willow is secretly a doctor? Lorelai and Puppy Dog Dean work very hard to keep Dean and Rory's relationship afloat, but Rory's got other plans, like pouring over Jess's big chunky pastel handwriting in her book margins. Richard's still trying out new hobbies, like car repair and high school projects. And Rory wouldn't DARE have a digital meeting!

Poorly-Attended Funerals

Buffy the Gilmore Slayer: A Buffy and Gilmore Girls Podcast

play

03/16/21 • 54 min

Gilmore Girls S2 E17: "Dead Uncles and Vegetables"/Buffy S2 E17: "Passion"
While Luke deals with the death of his terrible uncle, Lorelai helps out at the diner. As someone who's worked in a lot of restaurants, Stacey's got problems here. While Emily demands Sookie plan a whimsical wedding she surely can't afford, Rory bosses Jess around, and he just kinda lets her. At Sunnydale High, so much of the faculty has died that Willow has to teach now. The gang finally decides to do something about the Angel problem. And between letters and sketches, Angel contrives a very dark and elaborate prank on Giles. #passion

Buffy S2 E16: "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered"/Gilmore Girls S2 E16: "There's the Rub"
Apologies! Bryan's mic had a mystery issue in this episode. It gets a little crackly a few minutes in and stays that way throughout. We did our best to make it as tolerable as possible. Shouldn't be a problem in the future. We've already recorded the next episode without any issues, so who knows!? Anyway...
Whether coerced by charm, food, or morally questionable magic, we got a lotta ladies thinking with their dicks this week. Every woman in Sunnydale suddenly falls in love with Xander, but he's NOT into it? What do you want, Xander!?!? Not surprising that Bryan really liked this episode as a boy fresh outta puberty. Surprise surprise, Lorelai and Emily are fighting! Lorelai solves the problem by doing the same exact thing that caused the fight. Meanwhile Rory struggles to keep her gentleman callers separate, and apparently Stacey likes when men fight over women.
Also here are some links to this weekend's Sketch Cram show, as mentioned at the top of the episode. The show will be streaming live on Twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/thesquirrelnyc at this clickable YouTube link starting Saturday 3/13/21 at 11:59pm EST. It's a sketch show made all in ONE day, co-hosted by Stacey, featuring several sketches, one written by Stacey, and another produced by both of us!

Manly Men Doin' MAN Things

Buffy the Gilmore Slayer: A Buffy and Gilmore Girls Podcast

play

03/02/21 • 53 min

Gilmore Girls S2 E15: "Lost and Found"/Buffy S2 E15: "Phases"
This week's all about men showin' us just how lame it is to not wear your testosterone on your sleeve. Who knew one little bracelet could cause so many lies? And Luke gets back at Lorelai for all the times she demand he stop working to help her with something. Meanwhile Xander and Larry bond over a secret. Too bad it's a misunderstanding; with his growing list of love interests, Xander could really use a male friend to confide in. Apparently the women of Sunnydale are just fine with dating monsters. And Bryan and Stacey try to figure out what dirty words the kids are using these days.

Slinky Pink Dress Dreams

Buffy S3 E1: "Anne"/Gilmore Girls S3 E1: "Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days"
We're psyched to be starting Season 3, and weirdly, both shows open with perhaps prophetic dreams from women wearing sexy pink dresses. Both teen girls learn running away from their problems for the summer won't cure them. After his Season 2 growth spurt, Dean is now mysteriously thin, and we've got theories. Buffy's reunited with an old "friend" who's just a string of mistakes. We've got awkward boyfriend reunions. We've got aliases. Kirk and Oz have been promoted to the opening credits, and in case you missed Season 2, both shows have all the exposition you can handle.
After School Snack's sketch comedy show, which Stacey helped produce, will be live on Squirrel Comedy Theatre's Twitch channel and on YouTube at 9:30pm EST on Thursday 5/6/21.
