In this Brothaspeak Podcast we interview the Creator and Founder of HEETIZM which is a yearly event that caters to Big Men of Color celebrating Big Men of Color. Along with a faithful attendee & supporter Emilio, and Mr. Jason Whitesel, the Assistant Professor of Women's & Gender Studies at Pace University and the author of Fat Gay Men: Girth, Mirth, and the Politics of Stigma. Heetizm Myami Urban Bear Weekend started on the 4th of July weekend in 2011 to give Big men of color the ultimate 4 day getaway weekend in sunny Miami Florida. 5 years later Heetizm Myami is one of the top Urban Bear events that believes in providing; quality, comfort, friendly service, and plenty of fun filled activities throughout the entire event weekend, Miami Style.

JASON WHITESEL

Jason Whitesel (Ph.D., Ohio State University) is a Women’s & Gender Studies faculty member at Pace University. His research focuses on gay men’s rigid body image ideal and the resulting intragroup strife among them. His recent book, Fat Gay Men: Girth, Mirth, and the Politics of Stigma (NYUP, 2014), describes events at Girth & Mirth club gatherings and examines how big gay men use campy-queer behavior to reconfigure and reclaim their sullied images and identities.
