Many people thought Japan would be among the hardest hit nations by COVID-19, however, earlier this week they declared an end to their state of emergency. Even though Japan has a large elderly population, most people did not get sick. Moreover, they did not enforce a widespread shutdown, tested only 0.2% of its population and did not use surveillance technology.
So how did Japan succeed while not following the official playbook?
