ATOMIC BOMBS ON FILM
Boston SciFi Presents
10/26/23 • 48 min
Prometheus was a Titan who stole fire from the Gods and gave it to humanity. Ever since then, humans have grappled with the ambivalence of technological advancement and the sometimes inherent destructiveness of that which was created. This is no more evident than in films about, or featuring atomic bombs. From THE BEGINNING OF THE END (1947) to OPPENHEIMER (2023) movies have showed our intimate feelings about what we hath wrought. And now, there is a new technological advancement that threatens something more than just fire, how we think. Join MC Garen Daly along with film programmer Melissa Starker and film director Dave Gianacola as they open the bomb bay doors and drop a new podcast.
Some fo the films discussed: Gojira, Blast from the Past, Terminator 2, DR Strangelove and more

Superpower Wish
Boston SciFi Presents
07/18/21 • 40 min
Introducing: CLASSIC CINEMA: Ep 1. SUPERPOWER WISHES was recorded live on Facebook and Youtube on Tuesday May 11th, 2021 at 7:00pm EDT.
Hosted by producer, writer and comedian Michelle Barbera.
Guests: John Semper and Paul Salamoff
Michelle Barberais an artist, comedian, producer, and writer who lives in the Boston area with her husband, 4 children, and dog. She is cofounder and co-director of the Women in Comedy Festival, presented by HBO, now in its 11th year. She discovered her love of sci-fi and horror via unmonitored cable viewing and stalking the Worcester public library throughout her childhood. Checking her closet for pod people every night for two years was a small price to pay for the joy of vicarious interstellar journeys, sentient AI, and watching a human head sprout legs and scuttle away.
Boston-born John Semper was there at the very beginning of the Boston Sci-Fi Festival when he was the assistant manager of the legendary Orson Welles Cinema. He has since gone on to have a forty year career writing and producing TV series and movies in Hollywood. He is best known as the writer/producer of SPIDER-MAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES and co-writer of the cult comedy film CLASS ACT.
Paul J. Salamoff has been working for over 30 years in Film, TV, Video Games and Commercials as a Writer, Producer, Director, Executive, Comic Creator, Storyboard Artist and Make-Up FX Artist as well as a Teacher at THE NEW YORK FILM ACADEMY. He is the author of ON THE SET: The Hidden Rules of Movie Making Etiquette and the graphic novels Hired Guns, Discord, Tales of Discord and Logan’s Run. His short stories and essays have been included in acclaimed anthologies including MIDIAN UNMADE: Tales From Clive Barker’s Nightbreed and THE CYBERPUNK NEXUS: Exploring The Blade Runner Universe and he is a two-time Bram Stoker Award Nominee. Salamoff's feature-film directorial debut ENCOUNTER, is a multi award-winning Sci-Fi/Drama based on his original screenplay that stars Luke Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Cheryl Texiera and Tom Atkins.

Authors Robert Viagas and Harry Lohr, Jr passionately recount their adventure in creating a history of America's longest running genre film festival - The 50th Boston Science Fiction Film Festival & Marathon, Host: Garen Daly

Today's podcast looks Wizard of Oz, Ghost in the Shell, Gravity, and Everything Everywhere All at Once to see if they are overrated or not. Joining the conversation are Alexis den Boggende (film writer, Boston Hassle) and Oscar Goff (film editor, Boston Hassle) MC Is Garen Daly (Boston SciFi)

Back in the day, science fiction on television was all TWILIGHT ZONE, OUTER LIMITS, the original STAR TREK, and if you really pushed it, MY FAVORITE MARTIAN.

These days it is the edgy,THE EXPANSE. These days it is a throwback STRANGER THINGS. These days it was once unfilmmable FOUNDATION. Oh, did we mention how incredible the SFX are?
Boston ScIFi takes a deep dive into the how and the why we are seeing and experiencing so much great TV. Listen in. The Future is Now. The Golden Age of TV is Now.
Joining MC Michelle Barbera is Den of Geek's TV maven Michael Ahr and MIT Tech Review's Erin Underwood.
