The next Star of our Show of Artists Interviews on the Born to Create Podcast is the wonderful and witty Andy Johnson!
I had so much fun with him on the interview, having a lot of laughs and lots of movement on the camera as he is very expressive and his creative energy is flowing!!Here is a little bit about Andy, who I know from my time at Hurtwood House, Uk's most creative School and he was my Drama Teacher!
'Andy started his career as a stand-up comic; this led to acting, writing, and directing credits for TV and Radio. He shares in a BAFTA award for his writing and performance on five seasons of Short Change for the BBC.He has helped over 400 people into drama school.Among his protégées - Vanessa Kirby, Emily Blunt, Michael Balogun. Viveik Kalra, Maxim Baldry.Andy is often invited to direct theatre or run masterclasses at universities and drama schools; these have included LIPA, E15, Mountview, The London Studio Centre, Greenwich & Lewisham Young People’s Theatre, Bristol University, Middlesex University and at the University of Nevada. In 2013 The Excellent Audition Guide was published by NHB; currently a best seller in the category of Stagecraft'In the Episode which is launching tomorrow we have talked about fears, anxieties, the ego holding yourself back from just being, the inner voice and chatter that talks you down... He emphasised on the importance of allowing yourself to fail and just doing it!This episode is not only exciting and refreshing for Actors to listen into, but for artists in generel who are working with the most 'Vulnerable' part of themselves, pouring their creativity out into the world, which is when most of the limiting beliefs are being triggered!I love this episode and Andys energy and words of wisdome and humor! Jump in tomorrow morning to listen into this episode!
15 - Artists Interviews - Laurén Magda -From trauma blooms beauty: A healing journey to creative freedom
Born to Create

Laurén is an abstract painter who uses her art as a meditation practice to infuse spiritual energy and concepts into her work. Her work aims to give others a sense of healing and inner-spiritual empowerment.
She tells: 'My journey with my creativity has been a long and winding road, very much interwoven into my healing journey. Years went by after art school where I was barely creating. But a few years ago I decided to start an inner-healing journey with the help of a Spiritual coach, in which I confronted my childhood and generational trauma, artistic comparison hang-ups and challenged what my creativity meant through intuitive exploration. With the healing came a natural rebirth in what and how I create. In giving myself space from toxic influences and nurturing my mind, body and soul, I found the confidence to stop comparing my art to other artist’s work and was freed from debilitating procrastination. I went from creating works my whole adult life that were objective to abstract and intuitive, and it’s these works that resonate with others more than anything I’ve ever created. That’s the beauty of embracing your natural instincts, but like me, it can take a lot of healing and uncovering to get there. '
I am struck by Lauréns spiritual and courageous essence and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to her and connecting with her!
'When I create, I feel the external world fall away. It’s very much like meditation. Thoughts come and go like the clouds in the sky and organic inspiration happens. It’s really a magical place to be, no matter how I’m feeling when I go into creating.'
16 - Artists Interview - Kristen Morley - You don't have to be an Artist to be an Artist
Born to Create
05/20/21 • 46 min
'You don't have to be an Artist to do Art!'
The next Artist on the Born to Create Podcast is the wonderful Kristen Morley:
'As a queer, mixed-race artist, I describe myself as existing in the ‘between’ spaces. Straddling demographics, I often find myself observing the world from the periphery, and am particularly interested in examining the ways that we relate to our environments.
Creating expressionist works, I use intuitive motions to unify bold color palettes and soft shapes, employing an abstract lens to explore themes of gender presentation, vulnerability and universal connectivity.'
Kristen started doing Art after just one day feeling the need to create. She has a background in working in the corporate world and only discovered her Art after going to Art Therapy.
We talked about anxiety and depression, not having to be an artist to be an artist and being connected to something greater...
You are always a creative even if you don't engage with it and the thought processes that hold us back from creating is the same cause that creates unhappiness in life amidst other things..
Creativity is taken for granted and there is a huge healing or uncovering of the layers that hold people back from living their true and thriving self!
Great episode to listen to!
Kristen is a wonderful person to talk to with a lot of wisdom within her calm and welcoming nature.

Susanna Crum conducts research-led projects that investigate maps and printed ephemera as social artifacts at the intersection of the past, present, and future. With cyanotype, lithography, video, and sculpture, she merges digital and analog technologies and emphasizes print media’s roles in maintaining relationships – and erasures – between people and place. Her multilayered images combine community-based research with archival materials like letters, maps, newspapers, and oral histories and propose an interpretation of a place in which past and present are concurrent and vital.
Susanna received her MFA and MA in Printmaking with minors in Sculpture and Intermedia from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and her BFA from the College of Architecture, Art and Planning at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. Her work has been featured in international and national exhibitions at venues such as Museu do Douro in Portugal, Nicole Longnecker Gallery in Houston, 1078 Gallery in Chico, Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center in Cincinnati, the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft in Louisville, and the Liu Haisu Art Museum in Shanghai, China. Ekaterina received a Bachelor's in Fine Art from Kutztown University in 2011 and, since then, has been exhibiting her work internationally. She is interested in expressive work exploring mood and emotion and is influenced by post-impressionism, fauvism, and magical realism, which has enabled her to examine the subject of home, place, belonging, and identity over the past decade.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Cohle Gallery in Paris and Menorca, The Painting Center in New York, James Oliver Gallery, Decorazon Gallery, Affordable Art Fair, Art Miami Fairs, The Trenton City Museum, Paradigm Gallery, Delaware Contemporary, The Boxheart Gallery, A.I.R. Gallery, and more.
Popova has been featured in multiple blogs and publications, including Colossal, Beautiful Bizarre, American Art Collector, The Jealous Curator, DPI Magazine, Friend of The Artist, Iceview, and The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Ekaterina attended several residencies, including at Centre Pompadour in Abbeville, France, NES Residency in Iceland, the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts in Greece.
She works out of her rustic factory studio at 1241 Carpenter Street Studios in Philadelphia.
'For the past few years, I have been exploring interiors in my work. The interest started as a way for me to reflect on my upbringing in Russia, but eventually progressed to exploring the overall idea of “home” and what it means me now. The work has slowly evolved from being reflective and sentimental to being mindful and present in my current environment. I repeatedly paint my own bedroom, visit other people’s houses, and use reference photos submitted to me by others online.
My paintings include messy rooms, intimate items, and objects that refer to human presence without including the figure. I pick up on the subtle tones, lighting, and mood of each location to capture the emotion I associate with the space and then exaggerate the color to create a dream-like image.'

Marine is an advocate for artists since a young age; Marine Tanguy managed her first gallery at age 21 under Steve Lazarides, who discovered Banksy and JR and opened her first art gallery in Los Angeles at age 23 where she was lucky to be mentored by Michael Ovitz himself. MTArt Agency was born. Fast forward to today – MTArt Agency is a certified B Corp® award-winning talent agency is worth £35 million and is the art sector's leading talent agency representing some of the most talented, forward-thinking artists in the world, working with global organisations and cities, and nurturing its international community of art-lovers and collectors.
