Writer Anndee Hochman and Clinical Ethicist Pat Tadell on Boomer Generation Radio 11/22/16

Anndee Hochman, writer, teacher, and educator, is the first guest on the November 22, 2016 edition of Boomer Generation Radio. Pat Tadel, MSN, RN, a clinical ethicist from Gundersen Health in LaCrosse, WI, visits during the second half of the program to discuss end of life planning.

About the Guests

Anndee Hochman

Anndee Hochman has been writing, teaching, listening and pondering— professionally, at least—for more than 20 years. She is the author of Anatomies: A Novella and Stories (Picador USA, 2000) and Everyday Acts & Small Subversions: Women Reinventing Family, Community and Home (The Eighth Mountain Press, 1994). Anndee’s articles, essays and book reviews have appeared in O, The Oprah Magazine, Working Mother, Child, Redbook, Cooking Light, Philadelphia Magazine and OUT. She has written extensively about the changing facets of the family, including adoption, foster care, assisted reproduction and same-sex parenting. She has also written about spinach hoagies, urban chickens and a tattoo artist with a degree in fine arts. Anndee has received awards for fiction and creative non-fiction from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Astraea Foundation and the Leeway Foundation. Twice, her short stories have been featured in InterAct Theatre’s Writing Aloud program in Philadelphia, and her first book, Everyday Acts & Small Subversions, was named one of the 100 Most Important Feminist Books of the 20th Century by Sojourner magazine. Since 1992 Anndee has been a teaching artist in schools and community settings, helping children, teens and adults find their voices in poetry and creative non-fiction. She is a coordinator with People and Stories—Gente y Cuentos, a program that connects literature to life by bringing short-story discussions to prisons, drug treatment centers and libraries nationwide. Anndee has also worked as a counselor for homeless teens, coordinator of a women’s writing workshop, a theater critic and a bartender.

Pat Tadel, MSN, RN

Pat Tadel has expertise as a palliative care clinician, clinical ethicist, bioethics mediator and thanatology. National presence on issues related to cultural competence, palliative care, communication, collaborative practice and end of life care. Personal philosophy of education scholarship incorporates reflective inquiry, self-study, and experiential learning as part of the transformational journey as a clinical educator. Clinical work includes: teaching in a clinical setting with hands on patient care consultation in palliative care and clinical ethics/mediation, organization and development of palliative care consult teams and end of life initiatives for healthcare organizations. Leads and directs the work of others, conducts focus groups and support initiatives with interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary clinical teams. Specialties: Clinical Ethics, bioethics/mediation, thanatology, end of life issues, cultural diversity, advance care planning, and palliative care.
