Bloody Murder - A True Crime Podcast

Bloody Murder - A True Crime Podcast

Tara Sariban and Barney Black

Nominated for 4 Australian Podcast Awards, including 2019 Best Independent True Crime. Barney Black and Tara Sariban discuss the dark details of lesser know true crime stories from Australia and around the world. As avid listeners of true crime podcasts they aim to add to the conversation by talking about murders that haven't been done to death on other shows. Their humour comes from some rather unusual places but never at the expense of the victims or their families.

Novice Psychopath, Daniel Kelsall looked harmless, but this skinny 20-year-old with curly ginger hair was anything but. Inside this nerdish, owlish looking young man seethed a mass of cold anger and his blackened heart beat with the desire to commit evil deeds.

One night after finishing a shift at a restaurant he enacted his evil and bloody ambition with deadly results.

After 34 year old beauty therapist and mother of two, Novy Chardon went missing from her Gold Coast home in February 2013, her husband John wasn't even slightly concerned. He made sexual advances to her friends who came looking for her and didn't bother reporting his fifth wife's disappearance to the police. The day she vanished, Novy's divorce lawyer had sent John an email saying she wanted half his assets in the settlement. Interestingly enough, this is almost exactly what had happened before Chardon's first wife Maureen died of a suspicious overdose 17 years earlier.

TCNT: Keely Johnston wrote to us about the Podcast, True Crime Campfire.

Aussie As: The violent rampages of a Gold Coast bikie keep getting thwarted by bollards.

In November 1996, eighteen very hairy and very pissed off bikers descended on Darryl Lewis' semi rural property in Queensland, like a lava rain from hell, determined to get the bike back and reap a terrible and bloody revenge.

Motivated To Death and Dino the Sunshine Boy...

In 2009, motivational speaker and self-help author Jeffrey Locker was stabbed to death in his car in East Harlem. What initially seemed to be a robbery gone wrong turned out to be something far more complicated.

Dino “The Sunshine Boy” Dibra was a violent thug by the age of 12, jailed by 19, a ruthless multiple killer at 23 and murdered by 25. He was described by his family as having a heart of gold. But others saw him as murderer, standover man, drug dealer and kidnapper who wreaked havoc with the likes of Melbourne underworld figures Andrew "Benji" Venimen, Mark Mallia, Paul Kallipolitis and Carl Williams.

The Sinister Minister and The Mad Scientist...

Pennsylvania Pastor AB Schirmer’s wives had an unfortunate habit of dying suddenly in - rather ridiculous circumstances. Due to his stature, nobody thought to be suspicious of their deaths. But after the suicide of his mistress Cindy Musante’s husband, everything started to come undone for the Sinister Minister.

In Tasmania in 1983, Rory Jack Thompson strangled his ex-wife. He then cut her up into 91 pieces and flushed her down the toilet. Was this spectrum-surfing sociopath, this professor of fluid dynamics, just another man who horrifically murdered an ex-partner he couldn't control? Or is there more to his story?

Judy Buenoano was a stone cold, psychopathic serial killer who murdered her son and several lovers for insurance money. Although she favoured poison as a weapon, she wasn't afraid to branch out and try other rather dramatic methods.

Donald Webb was a mob connected, slippery bastard. Police described him as "an itinerant burglar well versed in the art of criminal impersonation". Webb liked to steal shit, murder cops, make it onto FBI lists and hide for years in closets.

Cleophus Prince Jr and Bold Jack Donohue...

Cleophus Prince Jr. raped and killed 6 women in San Diego in 1990. Most of the attacks took place in or around the apartment complex in Clairemont where he and his girlfriend lived. He would stalk the women - usually after seeing them at the gym, break in to their homes during the day and attack them when they were showering with knives from their own kitchens..

Bold Jack Donohue was a prancing dandy Irish Bushranger who terrified country New South Wales in the 1830's. His bravado and daring after absconding from his convict chains and going bush earned him sympathies amongst settlers, who protected him. But his defiance of the law did not impress authorities and made him a hunted man.
