Also titled Blind Drunk - Celts, Creatives, and Chords, this special episode which started with some fine drinks supplied by Pirate Life and Bridge Road Brewery at the Oxford Hotel, gave some fantastic insights into the processes and lifestyles of creating.
Joined by the talented Lucas Day (Liz and Lucas) & the skillful Pat Murray (Tig Junkie), David and Tim discover the inner workings of the creative mind, the process, the struggles, the good, and the bad of passions people can make a living from. But what stands true is that everyone is creative, so how do you express and balance your creativity in a 'busy' world? For those who make a living from their passion, where does the line sit between work and hobby? Join us with a pint of Pirate Life Cashmere, and another pint of Bridge Road Celtic Red Ale and sit back for this fascinating discussion about creativity.
This podcast is also graced by a very special performance (and exclusive first listen!) to one of Lucas's new tracks "Without It" played live (42:00-48:00) on the podcast in one take, accompanied by Pat's improv. on the harp.
Make sure to check out Tig Junkie's Instagram or listen to more of Lucas Day on Apple Music or Spotify.

Trade economics is something we begrudgingly hear on the news as usually constraining or disrupting global relationships, where people win and lose and agreements are made and dismantled in the name of fairness. But the current paradigm is hardly fair. As it stands, $2 Trillion a year is extracted from the poorest countries and funnelled into the richest, and we don't know how to deal with that under the neoliberal agenda.
Luckily, we have Fadhel Kaboub, who is a world-leading MMT economist with a bent for Trade and globalised economies. David and Tim were lucky enough to speak to Fadhel to discuss the inadequacies of current attitudes toward trade and aid, tying it into the everyday experiences of the average citizen in America, Australia, or neighbouring regions.
You can catch more of Fadhel's work in this presentation.

This episode of Blind Insights discusses the masterful book that touts being part biography and part political and economic commentary by Zach D. Carter, a reporter at the Huffington Post in the US. "The Price of Peace: Money, Democracy, and the Life of John Maynard Keynes" is a fantastic read for anyone, no economics interest or understanding required.

Though the book tells a riveting story about the life of Keynes, his ideas are more relevant than ever and make a great companion to anyone who is interested in progressive change for a better world. Economics is a tool through which thoughtful people can make a vision for the future come true, and no economist understood this better than Keynes, who is perhaps the most influential economist of all time. Zach, who is now an expert in Keynesian theory is a renowned political commentator who has very nuanced and interesting views on the political discourse and the medias role in the western economic narrative. David and Tim spurred on by a fascination with the book, are able to tease out some fantastic discussion with Zach in this special episode of Blind Insights.
See more about Zach.
The book is made available through Penguin Random House.

When you think of shortcuts, what comes to mind? Cheating? Or the premise of working smarter, not harder? Tim and David stumbled on a fascinating book by Oxford Professor of Mathematics Marcus du Sautoy called "Thinking Better: The Art of the Shortcut" which provides insight into the practice of using and finding shortcuts. In this episode David and Tim reminisce with Marcus about how Mathematics became a daunting subject they disconnected from for various reasons. But Marcus proves that mathematics is a wonderful thinking language and provides the shortcuts to get excited about it.

You can find more of Marcus's work in mathematics here, and follow his newest book on bookshelves and Audible.

This episode references the AI Agents Podcast featuring Marcus talking about his previous book The Creativity Code.

In a frank conversation between Tim and David, Tim explains his struggles in 2022, while David offers firm advice and explanations that broadly apply to all people experiencing the diminishing returns of hard work in the 21st century. The decline of what Australians call "the fair go" is a conversation that few are willing to have, because it is confronting to reflect on the world around you getting worse, and the rising depressions that accompany this trajectory.
This podcast draws inspiration from David's Blog; Why do Millennials experience quarter-life crises?

The boys from the Auscast Network are back! Joining Tim and David as they explore some of the many fine beers on tap at the wonderful Crafers Hotel. Between the Lobethal Bierhaus Chocolate Oatmeal Stout, the Little Bang Brewing Brown Flacon IPA, and the Mismatch Brewing Hazy IPA, our hosts were already pretty sloshed before starting this one. Featured in the episode is also the Mountain Goat 2018 Aged Stout, and Tim splashes out on a can of whisky-barrel-aged Deeds Brewing Once More Into The Fray Stout.
Safe to say this episode is pretty rowdy.
Between talk of what we had to eat and the future of the network, this is a very convivial episode and one that might be a little explicit for some ears.
The Crafers Hotel was especially kind to house us, feed us amazing food, and give us fantastic service. Make sure to check out their Craft beer list regularly for what is on tap, and also consider their massive selection of wine and other spirits.

Eddie Jaku is a German Jew who has lived a glorious 100 years and is still going strong. Born in 1920, by the time Eddie was 18, his homeland was a very different country than when he was born. On November 10th 1938 Eddie Jaku was arrested, beaten, and taken to a concentration camp before eventually being taken to Auschwitz, the deadliest camp of the Holocaust. By virtue of some miracles, Eddie managed to survive and escape, before getting married and moving to Australia where he has lived out many prosperous years with his family. Eddie has written a memoir titled "The Happiest Man on Earth", and with a book title like that, David and I knew we had to talk to him.
We are joined in the real and virtual studios by Jess Fruend and Luke from the Blind Insights Family.

The Piano Piece in this clip is Nocturne in C Sharp Minor, a piece composed by Chopin and famously played by Polish Pianist Władysław Szpilman, as featured in the 2002 Polanski film The Pianist. Playing this piece to the audience of an SS officer, Captain Wilm Hosenfield, saved Szpilman's life in 1944, as Hosenfield not only let Szpilman go but provided him with food and warmth over several occassions.
