Episode 14 - John Kaye
12/18/22 • 86 min
This was a pretty special episode to close out the year, got to sit down with John Kaye in his Coburg studio. John is an artist currently based in Melbourne, who’s been in the scene creating for over 15 years now, John grew up among the graff scene which would later inspire and mould into the widely respected pieces and forms of art he creates today.
On this episode, John speaks on his travels, solitude, his upbringing, living in Seoul, the processes he goes through when creating, moving in the current world, and more.
This chat felt really honest and open, which is what I hope comes out in most episodes. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, if you want to check out his work, you can find him on ig @killjohnkaye.

Episode 13 - James Gorter
I had the pleasure of chatting with James Gorter, a New Zealand-born filmmaker currently residing in Melbourne. James spent his early adult life squatting around Europe and playing in various punk bands before getting immersed in filmmaking. James’s films and work have the ideas of fate, spirituality, death, and violence running right through them in a raw and intense way. James is currently working on a southern Gothic film called Prayers on Fire, an idea for a film that has been with him for over 10 years.
On this episode, James speaks about his squatting days in Europe, his punk background, growing up in New Zealand, how he got into film, near-death experiences, his love for the Safdie Brothers and Harmony Korine, the dream state, and more.
If you are keen to check out his films and what he is working on, you can find him on ig @james_gorter_film and https://jamesgorter.com/.

Episode 15 - Marto (Comfy Shrooms)
My first episode from my short Sydney stay was with Marto, a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Sydney. Marto has been creating handmade ceramic mushroom incense burners for the last 3 years and has really formed his own style and lane with these pieces. Marto has also used his platform to share psychedelic and mushroom info, specifically in the mental health space, and how, when used respectfully, these substances can help connect us to deeper parts of ourselves and the natural world around us.
On this episode, we discuss psychedelics and its history, mental health, Marto’s ‘Santa was a Shaman’ zine, how the name Comfy Shrooms came about, cycling, and more.
This was a really enjoyable episode as Marto shared a lot of his personal experiences and thoughts on topics that can often be hard or difficult to speak on.
If you want to check out Marto's work, you can find him on ig https://www.instagram.com/comfyshrooms/
