Yesterday marked the 23rd anniversary of the death of Stevie Ray Vaughan. I listened to Texas Flood last night and it still sounds as fresh as it did when it was released in 1983. I recommend you give it a listen today.

Black-Eyed News:
This week we replaced the Black-Eyed News with an interview with the guitarist from the Dirty Bones who are playing a 30th Anniversary show at Black-Eyed Sally’s this Saturday August 24th at 9pm. The show coincides with a scholarship that was set up at ECSU in the name of their friend and former manager Joe Polito. We discussed Tom’s gear choices, the early years with the Dirty Bones in Willimantic and what they have in store for this Saturday’s show(to include raffling off a new Fender Stratocaster). I recommend getting there early and buying lots of tickets. Tom also writes for Vintage Guitar, Premier Guitar, The Tone Quest Report and Modern Guitar magazines you can check out some of his interviews and gear reports at:

Black-Eyed News:
The first story this week I briefly mentioned at the beginning of the show it’s about the Documentary Ain’t In It For My Health which is at Real Art Ways in Hartford. It is a documentary about Levon Helm the drummer for The Band.

Director Jacob Hatley's intimate documentary finds Mr. Helm at home in Woodstock, NY, in the midst of creating his first studio album in 25 years. Shot during the course of two-plus years, this highly anticipated film focuses in on the four-time Grammy winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member after his 2007 comeback album, Dirt Farmer, brought him back to the spotlight.

"For the fans left bereft by his 2012 death, it's impossible to imagine a more exquisite, honest, and beautifully detailed documentary about the life of Levon Helm than Jacob Hatley's Ain't in It for My Health." - Peter Gertsenzang, Village Voice

It is 83 minutes long and I recommend it to anyone that is a fan of The Band or Levon Helm.

The second story is about next weekend’s 2 Left Feet Bluesfest in East Hartland Ct.
Sept 14,2013 in East Hartland Ct. the lineup includes Shemekia Copeland, Anthony Gomes, Biscuit Miller, Eddie Shaw, Rich Badowski, Lydia Warren, also Bobby Paltauf and Mosaic. Tickets are $28 online $35 at the gate also a limited number of VIP seats are still available for $50 you are right in front of the stage and it comes with a chair. For more info and directions check out their website at:

American Blues Scene has a great review of the new Samantha Fish album to be released in September from our friends over at Ruf Records. If you want to read the review and also watch the first video that they shot for it the link will be in this week’s write up. Definitely go watch the video it was shot in a classic New Orleans club and is awesome.

Lastly this week’s interview from Blues Blast is with Willie “The Touch “ Hayes who was Magic Sam’s drummer. He had to decide whether or not to go out on the road with Magic Sam at the age of 16. His decision may surprise you. It’s one of the best interviews form Blues Blast in a while and definitely worth the read. You can also find out who else he played with and what he’s doing now. Here is the link:
