Conversation with White People About Race w/ IC Bailey
Black Canadian Creators
04/26/21 • 79 min
======
BCANCC 11 - Author and Activist, IC Bailey at conversationswithwhitepeople.com
He created ConversationsWith.Net; IC is an Activist and the author of the book Conversation with White People: Dialogues about Race.
He was inspired by his Facebook Group, "Conversations with White People". The group is a discussion that explores racism, White Supremacy and the empowerment of Black People. Companion discussions can include the marginalization of any group of persons and their hopeful license.
Mr. Bailey plus a diligent team of volunteer moderators, have discussions every day to undo the lies and half-truths about racialized, marginalized, and underrepresented groups that have become the norm — , and lies that always lead to the degradation of the standard of living for these individuals and communities.
The goal here is to document some of the attitudes and behaviours that have lead to the oppression of Black people, other People of Color and marginalized groups globally. It provides a space to make a complete answer to these systems of oppression. The effects of Racism and White Supremacy on the Black Community are of prime concern.

From Music Videos to Documentaries w/ Alison Duke and Ngardy Conteh George
Black Canadian Creators
09/11/19 • 37 min
In this episode, get to know content creators, Alison Duke and Ngardy Conteh George - A Producer Writer and A Director/Producer at Oya Media Group https://oyamediagroup.com
Alison Duke aka “Golde” (@therealgoldelox) is a storyteller, in every sense of the word. As a writer, director, producer, and visual artist, Alison tells dynamic stories that illuminate history, document the present, and push the culture forward.
Ngardy Conteh George (@mattrumedia) has emerged on the documentary scene at a time where the gaze has shifted to women of colour behind the lens to tell more powerful stories. As a Sierra Leonean-Canadian, Gaddy always wants to tell stories of the African Diaspora. As a director, she has achieved this with Soldiers for the Streets, a short documentary for the NFB, broadcast on CBC Television.
Sherley catches up with the ladies, who were in Atlanta for their documentary Mr. Jane and Finch (mrjaneandfinch.com) at The BronzeLens Film Festival. The documentary follows 81-year-old community activist Winston LaRose as he runs for city council in the 2018 Toronto municipal election.
The film is directed and produced by Ngardy Conteh George, co-produced by Alison Duke and edited by Sonia Godding. What is rare and such a gem this is a film made almost entirely by Black women.

On BCANC 12 - Casey Palmer is a Canadian dad who lives in Toronto, Ontario. He blogs about his fatherhood journey at caseypalmer.com, which is one of the few places in the Great White North to find fatherhood content. Because his story is different, he tells it. Is his father African-American? He comes from a multiracial family. His family's thriving in the city. Which means that his content has come from a very unique place in Canada's digital world, with Casey always evolving to tell the best story possible.
Kaya Marriott, also known as comfygirlwithcurls.com , is a Vancouver-based creator with a deep love for storytelling and community. Starting as a natural hair blogger in 2016, looking to help fellow Black women fall in love with their curls, her platform has expanded to include lifestyle content, beauty tips, and advice for her fellow creators. Travelling Doesn't Need to Be Expensive w/ Black Canadian Travellers
Black Canadian Creators
12/31/19 • 48 min
When you visit a travel agency. You pick up a copy of Sunquest or Royal Caribbean Cruise Magazine. What or better yet who do you see on the cover?
For the most part, you will see in these travel publications, quite often paint a picture of a Western tourist usually gazing at the horizon from the edge of an infinity pool. And, while you are looking at any major campaigns or advertisements for travel -- especially luxury travel -- you don't see black or brown faces. This causes an issue because, psychologically, it makes people who identify as Black, Caribbean, Mixed, African, Afro-Canadians feel like this isn't made for them.
@blackcanadiantravellers or @blackcanadiantravellers2 is changing this idea. All on an interesting Instagram account.
Be inspired by fellow Black Canadian Travellers and their adventures through the power of images from places like Indonesia / Cairo / Abu Dhabi.
This week’s conversation is with the founder of @blackcanadiantravellers, on The BCANCC Podcast!
