Welcome to a very special Bitcoin 2021 inspired Panel on the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast. This week Christian Keroles cohosts with Head of Research at Bitcoin Magazine Dylan LeClair a legendary panel with 2 legendary investors involved in the Bitcoin space, Cathie Wood Founder of Ark Invest & Anthony Scaramucci Founder of Skybridge. This panel was recorded on tuesday May 25th after a historically bloody weekend of negative price action. We kick off the conversation discussing the recent volatility in Bitcoin price and how Institutional clients are reacting to it. Scaramucci strongly emphasised that institutions really have not begun to enter into the space and Wood concurred and followed up that many institutions were afraid of top ticking Bitcoin and that the recent correction was healthy and desirable from an institutional perspective.

We move on to discussing ESG and the recent negative press bitcoin has been receiving due to comments made by Elon Musk. Both Cathie and Anthony believe that the environment is important but also believe that Bitcoin’s incentive structure will continue to push it more and more towards renewables.

Lastly we dive into the macro market conditions that investors need to take into account when assessing Bitcoin’s potential market. Wood and Scaramucci take turns breaking down the implications of negatively yielding debt, the everything bubble, deflation, and intermingled counterparty risk all market participants are exposed to.

We close out with Bitcoin price predictions for the year. Please enjoy this fantastic panel with the legendary Cathie Wood and Anthony Scaramucci.

Our guest this week is Sathvik Vishwanath, CEO of India based Bitcoin exchange Unocoin. A tech entrepreneur who got into Bitcoin in 2013, starting a Bitcoin meetup group in Bangalore out of which came the founding team of Unocoin, Sathvik as CEO is now leading the company through a new Series A funding round led by Draper Associates. We discus how Unocoin became the market leader in India initially, what the exchange ecosystem in India looks like now, why it is a market playing catchup, and why he is bullish on what is next. There aren’t many people who have been operating Bitcoin businesses in India since 2013, and I enjoyed Sathvik’s insights.

Our guest this week is Darshan Bathija, founder and CEO of Bank of Hodlers (bankofhodlers.com), an asset backed lending and borrowing platform that I think we will be hearing a lot more of in the future. The company runs out of Singapore and Darshan and most of his team are currently working out of India. Darshan gives great insight into the lending and borrowing markets for retail and institutions in their different geographies from Southeast Asia to Europe and the Americas. He also goes deep on the retail banking sector and monetary policy in India and what his long term vision is for a Bitcoin first bank.

Our guest this week is Raymond Walintukan, Director of Mining Operations North America for Bitmain. His perspective as someone in charge of running and growing a separate geography for a Chinese company and for Bitmain in particular is an interesting one. We talk about that situation, the workflow, the growth strategy, and dive into how it works operationally and how it fits into the broader Bitmain effort. Raymond also details Bitmain’s North American footprint, the nuances of working with public and private utilities in the US and mining trends that he sees heading into this next Bitcoin cycle.

Bitcoin Magazine Podcast - FedWatch 155 - Global Prices Crash! Deflation then Inflation?
play

08/17/23 • 52 min

Hosts: Ansel Lindner and Nolan Bauerle

Watch this Episode: YouTube || Rumble

Fed Watch is a macro podcast with a clear contrarian thesis of a deflationary breakdown of the financial system leading to bitcoin adoption. We question narratives and schools of thought, and try to form new understanding. Each episode we use current events to question mainstream and bitcoin narratives across the globe, with an emphasis on central banks and currencies.

In this episode, Nolan Bauerle and I dig into US and Chinese CPI, and discuss what it means for the global economy. We also start off the show as usual by examining the Bitcoin chart and some related news.

US CPI came in under expectations. Month-over-month was 0.2% (m/m) and year-over-year was 3.2% (y/y). Some people might not understand the importance of following CPI as closely as we do. However, we feel it is important to understand money and confirm our predictions based on my geoeconomic theory. So far, it has been very accurate, confirming my theories and adding more weight to my predictions and forecasts about Bitcoin itself.

We went through lots of charts on CPI, honing in on CPI ex-shelter. It is roughly zero, and since shelter is a lagging indicator without a mind of its own, we can predict shelter, too, will come down toward zero or even negative being highly likely.

Next, we cover Chinese CPI and PPI which show a massive global economic slowdown is upon us. Their headline y/y CPI went negative at -0.3%, and their PPI came in at -4.4%! Much of the world is going to enter a big recession in the second half of 2023, but the US will be able to avoid it for the time being.
