Birth Agni
Divya Kapoor
This Podcast explores how indigenously Birth has always unfolded, among women - our tribe, where children could see how breastfeeding was done and how birth happened. This an attempt to fetch the stories of the past as well as bring out the new India’s Birth culture to expose the defining features in both. This shall join the dots to where the increasing problems of postpartum anxiety, rising rate of surgical births and poor breastfeeding outcomes are coming from.
Birth Agni - Agni meaning Fire, the Fire that brings us alive, transforms us and has the ability to burn. Birth is designed to affect a woman’s integrity. It is the fire of awakening that makes her life experience wholesome. Deep down her body knows what Birth is supposed to feel - a euphoria of bringing a new life on Earth. The cocktail of hormones are designed to give her a high.
However, birth today has quickly swayed away from a phase of joy to the one marked by Fear, the constant questioning of a woman’s capacity to Birth naturally and the ugly calculation of the odds of a healthy baby at the expense of the mother’s health. We forget that their health is interlinked and flourish as a dyad. In India, the urban rate of Cesarean Sections on an average until 2020 is a whopping 40% which is concerning.
Birth is linked to Patriarchy, Healthcare Politics and Women’s Rights. Respect in Birth is long due to women and it affects the core of who they are.
Join me Divya Kapoor, a Certified Birth and Lactation Counselor and aspiring Traditional Birth Attendant in the quest to shine light on what we can do as parents and a community to change the narrative.

Birth Agni
11/25/21 • 30 min
This episode is a part of the 'Doula Stories' of Season 3
There were moments during this conversation that I felt a deep profound connect with an outer source that is guiding us all. This is Part I of our conversation
Nidhi Seth has been in the space of providing support to birthing families during and after birth. She has a high vibrational energy that catches on . More so, we know deep down that birth is hardwired into us but in a world constantly being bombarded with distraction fuelled by the vested interests of the businesses, we often need this energy to look withing and stir the chords of who we are. Nidhi has been that for us in this Episode.
Nidhi is a Certified Birth Doula, Ayurvedic Postpartum Doula, Hatha/Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga Instructor, Bengkung Belly Binding Practitioner, Clinical Herbalist in Training working on Women & Infant Medicine.
Here we speak about the various layers of birth including the spiritual aspects-
- Birth as a divine process
- Interventions and Cesarean
- Doula support and its significance

We have brought to you an episode which encourages you to enhance your knowledge about birthing processes.
Expecting parents often dwindle in the delivery rooms when it comes to making decisions in different circumstances, at that point in time the knowledge about birthing comes handy.
In this episode, Niati a hypnobirthing expert with over a decade of experience talks about the following
- Why pregnancy and giving birth to a child is traditionally a sacred process?
- What is hypnobirthing?
- How the practice of hypnobirthing equips parents to make informed decisions.
- Why we need to rethink the entire birthing methods undertaken by hospitals and make efforts towards making it more pleasurable than daunting because it can be that way.
Let us work towards inculcating knowledge and empowering ourselves in all walks of life.

This episode is a short memoir of my childhood with my grandfather. It is in the Hindi language. It is a small attempt to bring to notice the importance of grandparents in a child's life.
Jay Kesler said, " Young people need something stable to hang on to -
a culture connection, a sense of their own past, a hope for their own future.
Most of all, they need what grandparents can give them...."
This quote perfectly sums up this mini episode. This is also a tribute to my late grandfather whom I miss every now and then.

This question popped up on my mind last week on international Mother's day. To me parenthood is as much about partnership as marriage is. And Typically, a father is born the day a mother is, their roles surely can be different at times but parenthood is well, about balance.
So i browsed and surfed and did my research. The times surely are changing, societal pressures on men and women to stick to their assigned roles was huge at some point in time. This is seeing a positive shift. Coming from an indian family, i see a tremendous blurring of the roles which to me should have always been natural.
So how did these days come into being and why do we celebrate them the way we do?
Listen to me unlocking these answers and share my thoughts here in this episode! Hop on!
