Binge-Listen: Finished Fiction Podcast Trailers

Greetings, and welcome to The End Last Week, This Week, and Next Week, the podcast companion to The End, the newsletter and listener-focused directory that shines a light back on audio fiction shows after they've reached the finale of a season or the conclusion of the series. I am your host and the curator of The End, Evo Terra.

Before we begin, I need to give a quick and heartfelt shout-out to to Marc Langston for signing up his production company, Nocturn Hall, as a Supporting Creative Shop. You'll hear more about them and their show, Dupont Investigations, in the coming weeks. And another huge shout-out is due to Jon Rolfe, because he also signed up his production company, Cryptic Radio, as a Supporting Creative Shop. More is coming from them quite soon as well.

Seriously, Mark and Jon, thank you for your support. It means the world to me, especially after I just shelled out nearly $8K for tomorrow’s procedure to remove another kidney stone. Ah, the joys of US healthcare.

You can support my efforts on The End like Marc and Jon did by visiting TheEnd.fyi/support.

And now, let’s get into it, shall we?

Last Week

The most recent issue of The End—the 72nd—highlighted five shows in either the Recently Completed Series or Recent Season Finales sections... and two of them wrapped in the last few days.

  • 😯😭☠️ • Atwood Manor, a dramatized murder mystery series from HellRose Productions that is created and performed by majority queer artists, posted the Season 1 finale on January 15th. You can listen to the 10 current episodes in about three hours.
  • 🛒📼🦃 • Supermarket, a dramatized comedy/sitcom series from 911 Podcasts made with a range of ethnic and LGBT cast and crew members, posted the Season 1 finale on the 12th of January. Listen to the 6 current episodes in three and a half hours.
  • And be sure to listen to the end of the audio file to hear trailers or snippets for these shows.

This Week

With every issue, I make two recommendations for great audio fiction I personally love. As with all things in life, YMMV.

  • 😱😥💀 • My first recommendation is The Trees Swallow People, a narrated horror series with music from Conor Matthews. Yes, it's narrated. But it's also soundscaped, with some subtle—and some not-so-subtle—sound effects to enhance the experience. Caution: The narrator's voice is extremely soothing. I'm not saying you'll fall asleep listening if you're stoned, but it can happen. Here’s the trailer: [trailer plays] The Trees Swallow People is complete with a single season of 24 episodes. You can listen to it all in about six and a half hours.
  • 🎮🚔🫢 • My next recommendation is Restart, a dramatized thriller from BBC Sounds and the makers of The Cipher, starring Armin Karima of Sex Education. I find conversion therapy abhorrent, and this fictional account drives that home even more. And this show sounds great, with exceptional actors and production. It's a winner! Here’s the trailer: [trailer plays] There’s just one season with a satisfying ending (says me) currently to Restart. Enjoy all 8 episodes in about four and a half hours.

Next Week

The latest issue of The End has four entries in the New Seasons Coming Soon section, and one of them starts up again in the next few days.

Season 2 of Sci-Ops Nova, a narrated scifi series from Jedi Reach & Antoni Media Productions, starts on 20 Jan 2024. Catch up with the current 12 episodes in about two and a half hours.

And as a reminder, trailers or snippets for that show and the two ...

Last Week

The most recent issue of The End—the 71st—highlighted five shows in either the Recently Completed Series or Recent Season Finales sections... and four of them wrapped in the last few days.

  • 🦉🛰️🕰️ • Wyrd Woman, a dramatized modern slipstream fantasy written, performed, and produced by a queer autistic creator from Broads and Books Productions, a women-led production company, is fully complete as of January 10th. You’ll need a bit over 2 and a half hours to listen to all 9 episodes.
  • 🪄🐒☄️ • Shadow Realm is a dramatized magical coming-of-age tale from Reenita Malhotra & SpokenLayer—think Harry Potter with a South Asian spin—and it’s won a bunch of awards for the script, and more. The season 2 finale was posted on January 10th, and you can listen to the 40 current episodes in six and a half hours.
  • 📓🧬🤯 • Six Minutes, a dramatized adventure mystery for all the family from Gen-Z Media, posted the Season 3 finale on the 4th of January. Settle in, because there are 275 episodes in the first three seasons, for a listening time of over 38 hours. Wow.
  • 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩🧠🌍 • The Cara Files, a narrated scifi adventure and love story from Tony Warner, which is completely written and produced by the author, posted the Season 1 cliffhanger episode last Christmas. You can listen to the 10 current episodes in just over two and a half hours.
  • And be sure to listen to the end of the audio file to hear trailers or snippets for these shows.

This Week

With every issue, I make two recommendations for great audio fiction I personally love. As with all things in life, YMMV.

  • ☢️🤪🥫 • My first recommendation is A Happy Bureaucracy, a narrated post-apocalyptic parody from M.P. Fitzgerald. This is such a strange story, which is clearly a big draw for me. It's well-narrated and has an excellent pace. It takes a little work to buy into the premise, but once you do, it's a lot of fun! Here’s a snippet from the Prolougue: [snippet plays] A Happy Bureaucracy has more seasons coming, but you’ll enjoy the 37 episodes of the first two seasons in about 11 and a half hours.
  • 🫦🎙️🤫 • My next recommendation is Dirty Diana, a dramatized slice-of-the-sexier-side-of-life from QCODE, starring and executive produced by Demi Moore. I like this one for a lot of reasons. The core story is fascinating. The production is top-notch. And then... Demi Moore, of course. Here’s a snippet from the first episode: [snippet plays] Dirty Diana is a complete story in a single 6-episode season, giving you a little over four hours of enjoyment.

Next Week

The latest issue of The End has four entries in the New Seasons Coming Soon section, and two of them start up again in the next few days.

Season 2 of Strange New Worlds And Spaced Out Tales, a narrated scifi anthology from Jim Cogan, starts on 17 Jan 2024. Catch up with the current 7 episodes in about three and a half hours.

I am your host and the curator of The End, Evo Terra.

Before we begin, I need to give a quick and heartfelt shout-out to Jon and the team from Mortis Maledictum for signing as a Supporting Creative Shop. It is greatly appreciated, Jon, and a welcome salve to the fog of pain that’s been surrounding me all week post-failed-procedure to remove a kidney stone. Bah.

You can support my efforts on The End like Jon did by visiting TheEnd.fyi/support.

And now, let’s get into it, shall we?

Last Week

The most recent issue of The End—the 73rd—highlighted just three shows in either the Recently Completed Series or Recent Season Finales sections... and all three of them wrapped in the last few days.

  • 🇺🇸🕵️‍♂️🇫🇷 • The American, a narrated thriller series from Matthew C. McLean, posted the Season 1 finale on January 25th. You can listen to the 10 current episodes in 1h 34m, with season 2 just a couple of weeks away.
  • 🕵️‍♂️🔥😱 • Springleaf, a dramatized comedic “true” crime series from James Acaster & Mighty Bunny crowdfunded via Kickstarter, is fully complete as of the 23rd of January. You’ll need about five hours to listen to all 10 episodes.
  • 🗡️🪭🌸 • Tales of the Emerald Legacy, a narrated fantasy series from Emerald Legacy CIC, posted the Season 1 finale on the 18th. Listen to the 10 current episodes in a bit over 2 hours.
  • And be sure to listen to the end of the audio file to hear trailers or snippets for these shows.

This Week

With every issue, I make two recommendations for great audio fiction I personally love. As with all things in life, YMMV.

  • 🌞🎢🕵️‍♀️ • My first recommendation is Mockery Manor, a dramatized comedy mystery series from Long Cat Media. This show is a joy to listen to. Which is an odd thing to say about a murder mystery, I know! Exquisitely produced. Incredibly well-acted. And just the right amount of absurdity. Here’s the Season 3 teaser: [teaser plays] Mockery Manor currently has 3 seasons with 37 episodes, giving you 17 hours of murder-mystery funhouse-slash-amusement park fun!
  • 🏛️🗳️😰 • My next recommendation is Terms, a dramatized thriller from Airship. This show is political intrigue at its best. The outstanding performance and production will help, as the subject matter is a little too close for comfort. Again. Here’s the teaser: [teaser plays] Terms is a complete series (at least, I hope so) with 13 episodes and a listening time of about four hours.

Next Week

The latest issue of The End has five entries in the New Seasons Coming Soon section, and one of them starts up again in the next few days.

Season 15 of Lost Terminal, a dramatized hopepunk scifi series from Tristram Oaten & Namtao Productions, starts on 5 Feb 2024. Catch up with the current 140 episodes in 36h 02m.

And as a reminder, trailers or snippets for that show and the other shows I mentioned at the top of the episode are coming your way right after I say...

And that’s all for this episode of The End Last Week, This Week, and Next Week. For these and the other audio fiction shows featured, highlighted, and coming soon that were part of the 73rd issue of The End, including all sorts of new and exciting easy ways to listen, and something very new called Collections, please visit TheEnd.fyi.
