Binge-Listen: Finished Fiction Podcast Trailers

Greetings, and welcome to The End Last Week, This Week, and Next Week, the podcast companion to The End, the weekly newsletter that shines a light back on audio fiction shows after they've reached the finale of a season or the conclusion of the series. I am your host and the curator of The End, Evo Terra.

Before we get into it, a quick note to let you know I’ve totally overhauled the newsletter this week. I think it flows much better, it should look much better on mobile devices, and be more close to acceptable for those who use screen readers. Do me a favor and have a look, and then give me your feedback. Much obliged in advance. Now... where was I? Oh, yes—

Let’s get into it, shall we?

Last Week

The most recent issue of The End - the 42nd highlighted 7 shows in the Season Finales & Finished Series section, and 2 of them wrapped within the last week:

  • 🤨😀🤮 • Goodbye Blue Mondays, a dramatized absurdist scifi comedy from LovelyMachine & Story Engine, posted the finale of their 1st season on June 20th. Give yourself just over 2 hours to listen to the six episodes in preparation for Season 2 starting next April.
  • 🧍🏿‍♀️👁🕴 • Liars & Leeches , a dramatized supernatural horror from Hemlock Creek Productions, finished their first season on June 16th. It’ll take you about 4h to listen to the 10 current episodes. Season two will happen next year.

This Week

With every issue, I made two recommendations for great audio fiction I personally love. As will all things in life, YMMV.

  • 🕹️🌲🔥 Up first is The Polybius Conspiracy, a dramatized thriller from Jon Frechette & Todd Luoto in conjunction with Wayland Productions. I spent a lot of quarters in arcades in the 80s, but luckily nothing like this happened to me. Check out the trailer for this mocumentary. [trailer plays] The Polybius Conspiracy is a complete show with 7 episodes for about 3 and a half hours of pew-pew enjoyment.
  • 🌃🎰🍸 My next recommendation is Bronzeville | dramatized historical fiction thriller from Josh Olsen via Realm. Listen, Laurence Fishburne is just one of the starts in this exceptional period piece set in Chicago’s sound side. Here’s the trailer: [trailer plays] Bronzville is compete with 2 seasons and 17 episodes for almost 11 hours of entertainment.

Next Week

The latest issue of The End has 2 entries in the New Seasons Coming Soon section, and neither of those restarts starts this month. So before I get to the remaining trailers and snippets, I wanted to say a huge thank you to Ben, Colin, Fred, Charlotte, and Craig, each of whom recently became individual supporters of The End with a teeny-tiny contribution each month. They get value out of The End, so they’re returning to me some of that value. If you’re so inclined, please check out the Support page on the website.

And that’s all for this episode of The End Last Week, This Week, and Next Week. For these and the other audio fiction shows featured, highlighted, and coming soon that were included in the 42nd issue of The End, including links to listen to the shows mentioned in this episode, please visit TheEnd.fyi.

I’m Evo Terra. Thanks for listening.

Last Week

The most recent issue of The End - the 41st - highlighted 6 shows in the Season Finales & Finished Series section, and 3 of them wrapped within the last week:

  • 📖💀⛵ • Eternal Strife, a dramatized comedy from Bruce Windwood, posted the final episode of the entire series on June 11th. You can listen to all 22 episodes of the 4 seasons in about 11 hours. Listen to the end of the episode to hear the trailer.
  • 🔎🔫🪦 • Riordan's Desk, a narrated mystery from Mark Coggins, posted the final episode of the 5th season, which is his novel, The Immortal Game, on my birthday, June 10th. It’ll take you about 7 and a half hours to the 30 episodes of this season, or just over 45 hours to listen to all five seasons. Of note: Riordan’s Desk is included in Top 30 crime fiction podcasts. I’ll link to that in the episode details, and his next season starts... next week. A sample of the first episode is included at the end of this episode.
  • 🌎🤰🤯 • Expectant, a dramatized fiction podcast from Pippa Johnstone, wrapped all 6 episodes on June 8th. This is a quick listen, at just over an hour and a half to listen to the complete story. And shockingly, the trailer for Expectant will play at the end of this episode.

This Week

With every issue, I made two recommendations for great audio fiction I personally love. As will all things in life, YMMV.

  • 🔪🧟‍♂️😭 Up first is Unkillable, a narrated horror thriller from Patrick E. McLean. This is a blast from my past, as it was first published as a podcast on Podiobooks.com, a service I ran from 2005 to 2015. Patrick is one of my favorite storytellers, and Unkillable is no exception. Here’s a snipped from the first part of the first episode, recorded way back in 2010. [snippet plays] You can, and should, listen to Patrick narrate all 19 episodes of Unkillable. It’ll take you about four hours
  • 📼🕯️🏃 My next recommendation is Video Palace, a dramatized horror show from Shudder. Yes, THAT Shudder. I love creepy, you-probably-shouldn’t-do-that content on its own, but layer in Shudder’s incredible commitment to sound quality, and this is a huge hit. Here’s a sample from early in the first episode. [sample plays] Video Palace is a complete story. Give yourself just over three and a half hours to listen to all 10 episodes.

Next Week

The latest issue of The End has 2 entries in the New Seasons Coming Soon section, and one of those restarts occurs next week.

👹🩸😱 • Hex Noir, a dramatized horror from Hilmar Loftsson, which you might remember from its appearance last week in the Last Week segment of this show, will start its 3rd season on June 21st. Catch up with the 18 episodes of the first two seasons in a little over 7 hours. If you wait just a moment, you’ll hear a sample of the first episode of the 2nd season..

And that’s all for this episode of The End Last Week, This Week, and Next Week. For these and the other audio ...

  • 🧑‍🔬🕹️♻️ • My next recommendation is Red Valley, a dramatized scifi thriller from Orpheus Studio Productions.
