The Devil Wears Prada 2: Revenge Wears Prada
Beyond The Box Set
05/09/19 • 63 min
As an icy fashion queen who definitely isn't Anna Wintour, Meryl Streep delivers one of the most iconic performances of her career in The Devil Wears Prada. But could she ever be convinced to revisit the role?
Adapted from the bestselling novel by Lauren Weisberger, The Devil Wears Prada stars Anne Hathaway as an aspiring journalist who gets a crash course in the fashion industry while working as an assistant for fearsome magazine editor Miranda Priestley (Streep). The film was a surprise smash hit on release in 2003, grossing over $300 million worldwide and helping to introduce Streep to a new generation of moviegoers.
On this week's podcast, we discuss Emily Blunt's aggressive eye shadow, Anne Hathaway's superhuman speed, Stanley Tucci typecasting himself for life and more. After some good old fashioned drinking games, we move briskly on to pitching our own fantasy sequel ideas.

Every week on Beyond The Box Set, we discuss a classic standalone movie and compete to pitch the most ridiculous sequels, prequels and spin-off ideas to bring them back to the big screen.

Being Benjamin Button
Beyond The Box Set
04/04/19 • 95 min
Over the course of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, a man lives an entire lifetime in reverse. After sitting through the three-hour runtime, we felt like we could relate to the experience.
Directed by David Fincher from the short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a fascinating concept with a fundamentally boring character at the centre. Join us on this week's podcast as we discuss extremely variable CGI work, the intense ick-factor of the old man/little girl love story and why Tilda Swinton gave us a very British case of second-hand tea anxiety...
We also have a go at pitching some sequel ideas, including some thoughts on how other notable directors might have handled this story, and a crossover with one of our favourite camp classics from a past episode...

Air Force One: Cruise Control
Beyond The Box Set
05/03/19 • 86 min
Be honest, who wouldn't vote for Harrison Ford as President? On the basis of Air Force One, his policies might be a little... problematic, but he's reliably charming, calm under pressure and he can really nail a trailer line. Real presidents have been elected for much, much less...
Dubbed 'Die Hard on a Plane' by critics, Air Force One is dated, dumb and hugely entertaining. Join us as we delight in Gary Oldman's ludicrous scenery chewing, play a highly productive game of 'spot the action movie cliche' and pitch a mobile app game that might just change our lives forever...

Fatal Attraction 2: Bitches Be Crazy
Beyond The Box Set
04/12/19 • 83 min
Having recently discovered that Harry has only ever seen two Glenn Close movies in his life - one of which being Guardians of the Galaxy - we decided to dedicate a season to the iconic 7-time Oscar non-winner. First up, the terrifying 80s erotic thriller Fatal Attraction...
In this movie, Glenn stars as Alex Forrest, a successful career woman who reacts rather poorly to being discarded by married sleaze-ball Michael Douglas after a one night stand. It starts as a compelling examination of mental illness and ends as a fairly silly thriller, but Glenn's performance is one for the ages, and the movie was a genre-defining smash on release.
Tune in to hear our thoughts on dishwater sex (we're against it), the terrible mistreatment of poor Quincey the dog in this movie, and why Michael Douglas deserved pretty much everything he got...
Oh yeah and sequel pitches, drinking games, etc. You know the drill.

Election 2: Becoming Tracy Flick
Beyond The Box Set
09/27/19 • 60 min
A pointed political satire from Sideways director Alexander Payne, Election gave a young Reese Witherspoon the role of a lifetime as Tracy Flick, a hyper-ambitious young student who invokes the impotent rage of frustrated middle school teacher Matthew Broderick.
Two decades on, the narrative of a highly qualified female politician being judged more for her likability than her qualification feels more relevant than ever. With that in mind, having survived Broderick's attempted sabotage in the original movie, we were interested to discover where Tracy might go next...
Find out in this week's episode, in which we also discuss 90s movie driving, lies in voiceover, why wildcard candidate Tammy might have accidentally predicted Donald Trump and more...

Truth or Dare 2: Double Dare
Beyond The Box Set
02/21/19 • 87 min
What if a classic college game based around uncomfortable revelations and sexy funtimes... turned deadly? That's the premise of the wholly unoriginal but kinda fun teen horror Truth or Dare, which we actually wound up enjoying a whole lot more than we should probably admit.
Released in 2018, Truth or Dare mixes a little bit of Final Destination with a liberal dose of It Follows, as a group of one dimensional college students accidentally fall prey to a sinister demon during a Spring Break bender in Mexico. Critics gave the film a hard pass with a mere 15% on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences were a little kinder, and the movie wound up grossing a healthy $95 million at the Box Office.
This presumably means a sequel is all but inevitable - and we thought we'd get ahead of the curve with ideas for how to continue the story, featuring double the dares, twice the terror and a whole new cast of interchangeable teen stereotypes played by actors in their mid to late 30s...

E.T. The Extra Terrestrial - LIVE! (feat. Kenrick & Miller)
Beyond The Box Set
01/25/19 • 92 min
We did it! To celebrate our 100th(!) episode of Beyond The Box Set, we decided to take a bold step into the Podcasting big leagues by hosting our very first live episode!
Obviously a major moment requires a major movie choice, so in front of a specially invited audience at our favourite pub, The Chemic Tavern in Leeds, we decided to pitch some sequel ideas for the Steven Spielberg classic E.T. The Extra Terrestrial.
Tune in to hear us thoroughly dissect some of the movie's most iconic scenes - with a little help from guest comics Kenrick & Miller - before attempting our most ambitious, creative and possibly nonsensical sequel pitch ever!
Huge thanks to everyone who turned up on the night, and everyone who listens to this episode! It's kind of a big deal for us and while it may be a little chaotic, it's truly a labour of love!
Here's to the next 100...

Arrival 2: Departure (feat. Dante Pineau)
Beyond The Box Set
11/29/18 • 87 min
It's a thought-provoking modern sci-fi classic that played a key role in Beyond The Box Set's Amsterdam-based origin story. So why did it take us 93 episodes to dedicate an episode to Arrival? Well, if time is a circle, then on some level, haven't we somehow always been dedicating an episode to Arrival? Wait, now we're even more confused...
Dante Pineau of PlayD&D and Let's Get Contextual joins us this week to discuss property porn, the perils of Dutch subtitles, how this movie got totally screwed over at the Oscars and more, before diving into some high-concept sequel ideas including a look at what might have been going on at the other research camps, a grief-stricken Jeremy Renner's attempts to unwind time and save his daughter's life and an expose on what the mysterious Abbot and Costello aliens were really up to...

The Birdcage 2: Starina Rides Again
Beyond The Box Set
11/23/18 • 79 min
Put simply, 'The Birdcage' is one of the funniest movies ever made. Yes, it's a remake of the much-loved French classic La cage aux folles, but it's elevated above standard remake fare by inspired casting across the board and a strong emotional centre in the midst of all the camp farce.
A sequel without Robin Williams is obviously almost impossible to imagine, but we did find ourselves wondering how Nathan Lane's flamboyant Albert would cope with the loss of his remarkably patient life partner. Not to mention the tantalising/terrifying notion of how Agador Spartacus' personal style might have evolved as he entered his mid-fifties...

Beyond The Box Set
02/24/20 • 74 min
The dust may have settled on this year's Oscar drama, but we're still not ready to let go of J.Lo's outrageous snub in Best Supporting Actress. So this week, we're going all the way back to one of most acclaimed breakout performances in 1998's steamy thriller Out of Sight.
Tune in to hear our thoughts on car boot meet cutes, Goldfish rights, George Clooney's questionable bank robbing strategy and more, plus drinking games, listener submissions and of course sequel pitches!
