We’ve officially hit half a year, and with that produce what is very likely our weirdest podcast yet. Never has more time been spent talking to you about what we are doing with the podcast. Never has there been so many complete jumps in topic and time being recorded. Never shall we have another podcast like it. Shot directly from the Centre for Social Innovation, late on a Monday night, this episode covers civic engagement, Line 9, and the importance of getting involved. Stefan is joined by some excellent fellow CSI’ers but neither regular co-host can make their appearance.

Wind farms are evil! There is a chorus of opposition against wind farms across North America. Daryn and Stefan discuss this group of activists and the merits of opposing renewable energy installations. We also discuss where the line exists between protecting the rights of municipalities and fighting for much needed energy infrastructure changes. We would also like to post a minor warning that both of us were in a bit of a tired mood, so we may have been a bit more bitter than usual in this episode.

This episode is all about food waste. David, Daryn and Stefan explore their thoughts on the Hot Docs documentary Just Eat It, which explores just how much food is wasted in our society and the reasons for it. We jump around from the importance of localism, who not to blame, and a few ideas of just what can be done about this overlooked problem within our society.

Stefan and David discuss the ideas of deep ecology and the ethical implications that accepting such a philosophy would have on the world. From this jump off point, we cover the possibility of a secular environmental viewpoint, and whether all such concerns must be anthropocentric in nature. As promised in the podcast, here is the link to the New Yorker article on Plant Intelligence and more information on the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal can be found here.

Much of this episode was lifted from the Green Majority’s short lived video project ‘Over the Green Line’ which in some ways acted as a precursor to this podcast. In this episode we speak with Tim Nash, the Sustainable Economist. This will act as a precursor to some future discussions with Tim and if you are interested, be sure to check out our blog series on Alternatives Journal which focuses on Sustainable Growth.

I incorrectly identified the music for this episode saying that it came from A + E, however that is the name of the Album, and the band is in fact Clean Bandit. Luckily, this does not take away from their excellent track, Rihanna.

Stefan and Daryn debate whether or not the Ontario Green Party should ever consider folding into another political party to support green ventures. This discussion boils down to how the Green Party sees itself and how best it can serve the environmental movement. We are also lucky enough to be moderated by the one and only Guy Riel who takes the lead in keeping us on topic. Who do you think wins the debate? Send us your comments or tweet @GSCampaign with the hashtag #VoteSteho or #VoteDaryn to determine who was victorious!
