Today on the show we have Shavonda Gardner, founder of SG Style, a design and lifestyle blog.

She was on the path to have a long career in the military until she made the pivot into the world of interior design. One driving factor in her decision to start a design blog was the fact that she didn’t see herself represented in that world. She has a strong affinity for color, for going bold, and for making the most of your space, no matter the size. (Although, she has big love for small spaces.)

In this conversation, we talk about the steps she took to pivot from a career in the military into becoming an interior designer – and the pivot she had to then make again after the recession. The story that her home, The Cottage Bungalow, tells about her and her family. How she and her family lived through their kitchen renovation, while living in their home. And, the sweet story surrounding who was (and still is) her biggest influence and inspiration behind the design of her kitchen.

Being Home With Hunker - Being Home With a Feng Shui Expert (Kristina Hollinger)
play

01/17/22 • 30 min

Today on the show we have Kristina Hollinger, a feng shui expert and author.

In this episode, Kristina shares ideas on how to use the ancient Chinese art and philosophy of feng shui in your home to attract abundance in every area of your life, including your career, love, helpful people, and wealth.

10 years ago, Kristina started using feng shui after wanting to spruce up her apartment. And after decorating and arranging furniture in her space using feng shui adjustments, she says the months after that were a whirlwind of where she found out she and her husband were expecting their first baby, her husband’s career advanced, and she started to feel more fulfilled in her day-to-day life. So, what did she do? She got certified as a Feng Shui Consultant at the Feng Shui School of Chicago.

In our conversation, we talk about the top three spaces she recommends people focus on first when beginning feng shui; she talks about how 2022 is the Year of the Tiger, and what that means for us; plus, she has a really easy feng shui cure everyone can do at home to attract abundance into our lives.

As she says, it’s her “intention to teach you about the magic of feng shui so that you too can design the life you deserve.”

Rachel Moriarty is a San Diego-based, award winning interior designer. Her work has been featured in publications such as Vision Magazine and San Diego Home and Garden Lifestyle, and she has also been featured on HGTV and The Design Network. And in addition to her design work, she also teaches Visibility Coaching to other interior designers on digital strategy and positioning.

Rachel loves to celebrate color (in her work and her personal style) and her multicultural roots. They go hand-in-hand. She is an example of what finding joy in our work looks like. Her style is colorfully coastal, and as she says, this either magnetizes people to her or repels them. If you don’t like color, you need not apply. She describes herself as an introvert in extrovert clothing and has had a career path where every job along the way has been preparing her for the work she does as an interior designer. Rachel also shares how she prepares herself daily to tap into her creativity – and how she works with her ADHD to get into that creative space.

As she says, the more fun she has, the better it gets: the better her projects get, and the better her clients get. If you want to smile today, listen to the podcast just to hear her infectious laugh. We dare you not to feel inspired after hearing this conversation.

Today on the show we feature Trinity Mouzon Wofford, co-founder and CEO of Golde, a superfoods wellness company that features products such as latte blends, face masks, and smoothie boosters.

Trinity grew up on almond butter and sardines, so it was no surprise when she found herself interested in exploring the intersection of wellness with natural beauty – which led to the creation of Golde with her partner Issey Kobori.

They launched with just one product – the Original Turmeric Latte Blend – out of their one-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn. And as their company has grown, so has their space – they have since moved to a new home in upstate New York.

We talk about the 1865 house she and Issey recently bought in Hudson Valley; their process in decorating their home; and how gardening is a point of inspiration for her, teaching her about tenacity and perseverance, which she then applies in other areas of her life.
