Avid reader, big book lover and sufferer of recurrent depression. In this podcast, I will be focusing on the books, but if they've been adapted anything goes! I love recommending books, but I'll never spoil the ending.

Please note this is a HORROR novel and though we don't go into graphic detail it's likely not one to listen to with anyone of a sensitive disposition.

Misery is probably best known for the hobbling scene, gifs have been made of it - but just how accurate is that movie scene? Today I am joined by Lorraine, a friend and fellow podcaster (Once Upon a Nightmare and American Murder Stories) to talk about the 1987 book that spawned a film about stalkers and obsessed fans. What did we think? How did I convince Lorraine to join me to talk about a book? All of this is answered today.

I struggled with what to talk about for my 100th episode. I even contemplated just doing a normal book review, but then I realised that one thing I hadn't talked about is the authors I love above all others. There are a few, but that's what makes it fun...right? I also had help from some incredible people (though many amazing people have helped me reach this 100th episode).

This week I am taking a bit of a break, but I will be back. In the meantime, let me introduce you to American Murder Stories - not for the faint of heart, but if you're a fan of true crime then this will definitely be for you. In this episode of AMS I discuss the crimes of Pedro Rodrigues Filho - The killer of killers. Pedro Rodrigues Filho has been dubbed the real-life Dexter. Just like the fictional character Dexter, Filho would target men who were criminals. Filho is now a free man. Thank you for listening to American Murder Stories! If there are any cases you want me to cover from North, Central or South America, please email americanmurderstories@gmail.com For updates please follow: Instagram - American Murder Stories Twitter - american_murder Facebook - American Murder Stories Sources: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B087X1JX56/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_d_asin_title_o00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (Psycho.com: serial killers on the internet: True stories of psychopaths who became online sensations (Dark Webs True Crime)) by Eileen Ormsby Serial Killers Encyclopedia: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers from A to Z By RJ Parker https://www.grunge.com/236497/the-truth-about-the-real-life-dexter-killer/ (https://www.grunge.com/236497/the-truth-about-the-real-life-dexter-killer/) https://forensicyard.com/pedro-rodrigues-filho-brazilian-serial-killer-who-killed-murderers/ (https://forensicyard.com/pedro-rodrigues-filho-brazilian-serial-killer-who-killed-murderers/) https://sites.google.com/site/pedrorodriguezfilho/victims (https://sites.google.com/site/pedrorodriguezfilho/victims) https://cvltnation.com/serial-killer-vs-criminals-the-real-life-dexter-murderer-pedro-rodrigues-filho/ (https://cvltnation.com/serial-killer-vs-criminals-the-real-life-dexter-murderer-pedro-rodrigues-filho/) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmCdGzGnU6s&t=11s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmCdGzGnU6s&t=11s)

I know, I know, my break isn't quite over, but this episode is one I recorded at the end of last as a guest on Once Upon a Nightmare, it's book-related as we are talking about the first adaptation of Stephen King's 1980 novel, Firestarter, starring Drew Barrymore, David Keith, Martin Sheen and George C Scott.

So, what did we think? Did it do the novel justice?

A Spoonful of Poison is book 19 in the Agatha Raisin series by M.C. Beaton. Released in 2008, it is a complicated but enjoyable cosy crime that takes place in a Cotswold village. Join Agatha and her team of eager investigators as they try to solve not 1 or 2 murders, but 4, AND a cold case. Can they do it? I won't spoil it, but I will tell you if I enjoyed it.

I am going back to cosy crime again this week with the best-selling debut from TV presenter, Richard Osman, The Thursday Murder Club. A group of elderly residents of retirement village Coopers Chase gather every Thursday in the Jigsaw Room to solve cold cases. But are they going to be up to the challenge when someone close to their community is found bludgeoned to death? Find out what I thought of this 2020 novel in the latest episode.

Welcome to part two of my Misery special. I am joined, again, by Lorraine from American Murder Stories and Once Upon a Nightmare to talk about the 1990 film Misery based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. This is the film that won Kathy Bates an Oscar. So, did we like it? Did we find the differences between the book and film were too much or did they make the film better? Join us to find out.

This week I am talking about the first George Smiley novel by John Le Carré, Call for the Dead with a special guest, Shane from What's Shakin' with Shaner. Though the topic is the first novel by this incredibly talented thriller writer, we also right the world as we talk about everything from Sherlock Holmes to the MCU.

Elektra, not the best known of the victims of the Trojan War, but she is the title character in the latest novel by author Jennifer Saint. Find out how she fares in this mythological tale told from a female perspective. And then find out what I thought of it. As always, 100% spoiler-free so you can go from this to the novel without any fear that I am going to tell you the twists and turns that get you from the start to the end.
