Courtney Wiggins, a talented news producer for WISH-TV, is also a history buff. Wiggins's curiosity has led her to search for hidden gems in local African-American history. The result is an outstanding series of reports entitled "Finding Indiana." Her reports have included historic profiles of racing legend Charlie Wiggins and cycling phenom Major Taylor. George Mallet talks to Courtney about the Finding Indiana series she is producing in collaboration with WISH-TV's Randall Newsome.

WISH-TV hosted its latest Health Spotlight town hall special, “Racism is a Public Health Crisis”, a theme adapted by more than 250 governments, including six in Indiana. George Mallet talks to WISH-TV News Director, Al Carl, about the hourlong special which hosted leaders from four of the top health care systems in Indianapolis: Community, IU, Eskenazi and Franciscan. They answered questions about what they’re doing to address racial disparities and inequity in health care.

WISH-TV presented the special in conjunction with the Greater Indianapolis Branch of the NAACP, and the Indianapolis Recorder. They’ve held these events the past two years, but this was the first time it’s been on television.

The special also publicly revealed new data discovered by this community project over the first two years.

WISH-TV 8 Reporter Cody Adams was working in Terre Haute before he joined WISH-TV. The young reporter was just getting his career and family underway when his baby daughter, Madelyn, was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia, a rare form of blood cancer. What followed was a prolonged battle against the insidious disease at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health. Maddy's treatment culminated with a life-saving bone marrow transplant. During their daughter's treatment, Cody and his wife, Nicole, befriended other families and patients locked in the same terrifying battle. Happily, Madelyn is now cancer-free. When Cody landed a job at WISH-TV, he wanted to share the stories of those parents, their parents, and the doctors waging war on pediatric cancer. In this podcast, Cody shares his admiration for the courageous cancer warriors at Riley Hospital for Children.
