Behind Success - Chip Wilson, Founder of Lululemon
play

08/31/20 • 40 min

In episode 8, your host, myself, will be interviewing Chip Wilson. For those of you who don’t know Chip Wilson, he practically revolutionized the athletic wear industry. Before, people would wear their dirtiest and grossest clothes to the gym or an athletic event. Nowadays, you see people wearing a whole variety of comfy and stylish athletic gear. For example, track pants, sweats, endurance shirts, and so on. At the helm of this new wave of fashion was Lululemon, Chip’s company. Founded in Vancouver, Chip started to redesign yoga gear. He felt there was a burning desire for a better product in that industry. People loved the style and comfort of Chip’s shirts, shorts, and pants. Word quickly caught on, and soon after, they were reopening a whole bunch of new stores. From there, the company kept growing, expanding itself into every athletic apparel. Today, Lululemon is one of the largest athletic clothing companies in the world and has stores in almost every country.

Behind Success - Brian Paes-Braga, Founder of Lithium X
play

12/07/20 • 53 min

In the finale of season 1, I had the chance to interview Brian Paes-Braga, a renowned entrepreneur, and investor. Currently, Brian plays a lot of different roles, providing a leadership position in multiple companies. He helps companies like Nude Vodka Soda and Thunderbird Entertainment with financing and advice. However, his story starts far before all of this. Brian’s success started to emerge when he made a connection with Frank Giustra, a mogul of the mining industry. Brian had an idea to start a lithium company when electric vehicles were becoming increasingly popular and Giustra was there to back him up. In just two years, Brian and his partner Lucas were able to sell this company for just under $300 million, putting Brian on the map. To begin the interview, I ask Brian a few questions about his interest in business and how he shaped his career. Then, we move onto mentorship and building a team around Lithium X. Furthermore, we talk about what Brian is doing now and how he plays a role in different businesses. As mentioned previously, this episode will conclude the first season of Behind Success. I want to say thank you to all of my supporters who have listened and enjoyed some of my interviews, I really appreciate you all. To my guests, I am so honored to have had the opportunity to talk to you, I’ve learned so much from every single interview. Finally, I want to give a big shoutout to my cousin, Tommy Humphreys, my very first guest. I hope all my fans can join me in season 2, which will premiere just shortly after the new year. To make sure you catch it, go subscribe to my newsletter in the description for all the latest updates on what I’m doing. I just wanted to take a small break to focus on some other aspects of my life. Can’t wait to give you guys some much-improved audio in the new year but for now, I hope you enjoy this episode. play

07/20/20 • 40 min

In today's episode of behind success, Matthew Nelson interviews billionaire Tom Gaglardi. Tom is the CEO of Northland Properties, one of the largest family-owned hospitality companies in Canada. Their company controls brands throughout all of North America, including Moxie's, Denny's, The Dallas Stars, Sandman Hotels, and many more. They are involved with so many brands in so many industries; it's hard to keep track of all the work they get done. Since then, he hasn't looked back. Today, the company has over 10,000 employees and has continued to show year over year growth. During the episode, Tom and Matthew talk about how he grew up around business and what that looked like. Then they look into his role at the company and why he had to leave university to help his father. Furthermore, they talk about how to succeed in the real estate industry and Tom's involvement in sports.
